hmpf

I just found out that apparently, Flaking Paint is the most 'popular' piece of fic on my website. Not any of the more recent stories. Not the one that got recced on half a dozen Harry Potter fan sites, either. Not even any of those that were recced on crack_van. Nope: the most popular fic, according to number of hits, is my soon to be ten years old, unfinished, very bad, very *first* attempt at fic writing. It consistently gets 11-12 hits per week. (For some reason I never checked this particular part of the website stats before - or if I did, I don't remember.) I'm pretty sure it's never been recced anywhere - I'd have found the link via the stats, and besides, it really *is* bad. And unfinished. So where do all these readers come from???

(Maybe they're all people who keep checking back because they hope the story will be updated/finished? Hmm.)

I just talked to a very friendly, very cheerful employee of my city's waste disposal department, about what to do with several liters of old olive oil, sunflower oil and other types of leftover oils I've finally decided to rid our kitchen of.

On a phone hotline.

At 2 a.m. in the morning.

I really should have asked her what they need a 24-hour hotline for... I mean, it was nice to be able to ask that question right when it occurred to me, but... wtf? What garbage-related emergencies could there be that *really* require a 24-hour hotline?

Maybe I should call again...
