How bizarre.

I just found out that apparently, Flaking Paint is the most 'popular' piece of fic on my website. Not any of the more recent stories. Not the one that got recced on half a dozen Harry Potter fan sites, either. Not even any of those that were recced on crack_van. Nope: the most popular fic, according to number of hits, is my soon to be ten years old, unfinished, very bad, very *first* attempt at fic writing. It consistently gets 11-12 hits per week. (For some reason I never checked this particular part of the website stats before - or if I did, I don't remember.) I'm pretty sure it's never been recced anywhere - I'd have found the link via the stats, and besides, it really *is* bad. And unfinished. So where do all these readers come from???

(Maybe they're all people who keep checking back because they hope the story will be updated/finished? Hmm.)

Possibly they're the folks living in hope that you'll finish? I know someone was asking about a fic in The Sentinel fandom that was unfinished eight years ago and they were hopeful the writer was still in the fandom.

Possibly some link out there on someone's LJ or web site reccing it that you just don't know about.

Is there any way to track the referring IP?

Or, yeah, could be rabid fans waiting for the update!!! LOL!
