I just found out that apparently, Flaking Paint is the most 'popular' piece of fic on my website. Not any of the more recent stories. Not the one that got recced on half a dozen Harry Potter fan sites, either. Not even any of those that were recced on

crack_van. Nope: the most popular fic, according to number of hits, is my soon to be ten years old, unfinished, very bad, very *first* attempt at fic writing. It consistently gets 11-12 hits per week. (For some reason I never checked this particular part of the website stats before - or if I did, I don't remember.) I'm pretty sure it's never been recced anywhere - I'd have found the link via the stats, and besides, it really *is* bad. And unfinished. So where do all these readers come from???

(Maybe they're all people who keep checking back because they hope the story will be updated/finished? Hmm.)

So, whenever I've posted new fic to my website and announced it in LJ, I tend to check my website stats the next day or so, because I do want to know about the people who read my stuff. Not writing *for* an audience does *not* equal not being curious about the audience you do acquire - and it's simply a fact that if I put something online, it will be read, and yes, I am curious about those invisible strangers who consume something that was produced by my brain. (That, in itself, is not neurotic, I think.)

So... 97 hits since posting.

Arrgh. Okay, this got long but not necessarily clearer, but I'm too frelling hungry to continue writing, or clarifying. And hey, it's my ~~party~~LJ, I can ~~cry~~ramble if I want to. *g*

Someone's mysteriously found this post via metafandom, though I can't see anything there? Oh well, I don't mind either way. So, hi to anyone who wanders in from that direction. Oh, and a lot of people have reacted to this with apologies. Folks: this is not necessary. This wasn't about guilt tripping you; it was about my own neurosis. Neurosis as in 'unhealthy behaviour/thinking pattern'. So, no reason for you to apologise. The problem is located in my psyche, not your behaviour. :-)

17 of you checked out the wristporn. 20 the armporn. I'm amused. And a bit surprised that the armporn proved more popular; the wristporn was much better than the armporn, folks! :D

"Während des Sprungs in die Tiefe verhungern" got a surprising 6 hits. That's a few more than I expected. Though I'm not sure if my provider counts repeated hits - in that case the six hits would mean only three or four readers, since at least one of the readers visited the page repeatedly.

According to my website stats less than half of all readers, ahem, 'endure' to the end of Endure. (7 out of 17 last week, 4 out of 9 this week. Most of these hits I suspect are due to the recent rec in

tryfanstone's LJ, btw.) Weird fact: one person managed to jump to part two of that story without going through part one, as part two got one hit more than part one. Now, that's easy enough to do - all you have to do is stick a '2' at the end of the URL. But why anyone would do that is a mystery to me. It'd be like tearing out the first page of a book before reading it or something. Oh well. Don't try to understand your readers. *g*)

Also, the day I posted Normal my website had 111 visitors. Which is a) a nice number, and b) about a third more visitors than I usually have on any given day.

I really need to get my links section back up.
