Welcome to Livejournal land, [livejournal.com profile] anduranova of the TBFC tribe and of the Scape Sisters. Anyone who followed my rec for Poison recently and liked it, go tell [livejournal.com profile] anduranova - she's the editor.

I'm totally running out of time on uni stuff and still haven't made my Important Decision, so of course, I did the logical thing and spent most of today tagging all my LJ entries for 2002, and sorting through the rest of my Farscape vid backlog. Arrgh.

At least the Farscape tag in the tags list here is about as big as the Life on Mars tag now, as it should be. As I continue to tag the years between 2002 and 2006 it will probably grow even larger.

And I have 1.200 well-sorted Farscape vids, now.

*

Farscape vid rec for today: back in 2001 or so, Birgit made some of the best fanvids in the entirety of young Farscape fandom. She then mostly disappeared (as a vidder) for several years before re-emerging in 2005 with some vids that I, personally, thought good but not as spectacular as the admittedly hard-to-beat Under Ice (which was the very first fanvid I watched, and which is probably the main reason I turned into the total Farscape fanvid nut that I did.) More recently she's made some rather remarkable vids, which sort of remind me of Under Ice.

J/A shippy vids make up the majority of the fandom's production, and they can kill you with kitsch, so whenever I open a vid to find it's shippy I tend to get wary (and just a tad bored in advance). Birgit's approach to shippiness and shippy angst in her recent vids is one that managed to capture my interest, though. She chooses somewhat jarring, in some cases almost dissonant songs, which somehow - IMO - fit the John/Aeryn relationship much better than your average love ballad from the top of the charts. Like the relationship, these songs have hard edges. She also eschews the 'smooth' look and editing that have been the hallmark of many of the better vids in recent years, using some very odd effects and blending images in a quick and sometimes deliberately messy succession that nevertheless somehow works. The overall impression is occasionally hectic and disjointed, but fits both the music and the relationship depicted perfectly. So hop on over to Birgit's Vids and download

- Missing (J/A shippy/angsty)
- Disarm (J/A shippy/angsty)
- Goodbye, Blue Sky (PKW, wormholes, time)
- Three Sunrises (J/A shippy)

And, for [livejournal.com profile] amonitrate and [livejournal.com profile] bimo and other Twin Peaks fanatics (as well as anyone else who's interested in superb vidding): astolat has made a Twin Peaks vid that is so good it leaves me speechless. You can download it here. The editing is perfect, the song is perfect, and the crazy thing is that that song has been linked to Twin Peaks in my mind since I first heard it, back in the same year I watched Twin Peaks for the first (and so far only) time.

ETA: Go and leave [livejournal.com profile] astolat feedback here!

This vid captures the essence of Twin Peaks so well it gave me Bob nightmares yesterday.

My ScapeSister Dashan would like to start a livejournal, but I don't have a code to give her anymore. Could anyone help her out? Dashan's a great person, her main fandoms are Highlander and Farscape (but she likes lots of other things, too), and she has a twisted sense of humour. Just watch 'Poison' to see it at work! *g*

I just spent an hour or more on ICQ with AnduraNova, surfing ebay and various sex shops for an orange-red latex skirt and top to dress AnduraNova up as Sikozu at the Bochum comic fair. Dashan will dress up as Chiana, I will be Zhaan, Nager will be Stark, and Bettina will be Scorpius again. You wouldn't believe how many hours of shopping - or rather, hours of searching for things without much success - go into each of these costumes.

But we will get to meet Virginia Hey. In fact, we'll have breakfast with her. And she'll probably think us total nutcases for appearing in full costume for breakfast, but we have no choice - the comic fair starts right after breakfast, so we can either get into costume *before* breakfast or not at all.

I sense that this has the potential to become the most embarrassing day of my life.

but a few short notes before I leave to visit [livejournal.com profile] ankae...

1.) On Thursday I went to see 'Spirited Away' and it's a beautiful, beautiful movie. It had the same atmosphere and logic of many of my weirder dreams... Gotta go see it again next week, if I can find the time. Highly recommended.

2.) The evening of the same day I had to do a cast of my good buddy Nager's face because he wants to have a Stark mask made for the comic fair we are going to have a Farscape table at. Let's just say that at 40 degrees Celsius it was not a pleasant experience for him having to wear a rubber bathing cap for hours, and half of his head covered in plaster! It made me worry a bit about being Zhaan with that bald cap at the fair... I'll have to wear that thing for about 13 hours and I doubt it is any more comfortable than a bathing cap! The things we do for Farscape.

3.) Birthday (mine, that is) on Friday - nice and quiet. Breakfast with my mom, then work, then dinner with my mom (Indian food - yum!). (My dad was on a business trip.) Got nice books and nice music for presents. Unexpected present from a certain reader of this journal, too. (Thanks! You know who you are! *g*) Am 27 now, an age that almost fits with the grey hair I keep finding on my head more and more often...

4.) Happy Birthday also to my dear friends Kiki and [livejournal.com profile] ankae!

5.) And to my Scape Sister Dashan who actually had her birthday a few days ago but had her party yesterday. Very nice party; met Atti there, important figure from German HL fandom and webmistress of Fanficparadies.de. Weird, meeting someone whose name you've known for years on the net 'in the flesh' for the first time... Atti was in the same situation, btw, knowing me from my old essay on becoming obsessed with Methos which seems to be rather well-known in German HL fandom. Hey, at least *one* of my pieces of writing is well-known. *g* AnduraNova and me talked with Atti and her boyfriend all night, I'm afraid - we hardly even noticed the other guests. *g* Atti may even come to the next local Farscape meeting.

5.) Going to visit ankae for a few days, but first I have to have breakfast and then do the dishes. The stacks in the kitchen look like every single plate, knife, pot, fork and glass in the house is dirty. Frell.

6.) Oh, and since [livejournal.com profile] kernezelda and [livejournal.com profile] kazbaby already posted links to our new vid 'Poison' in their LJs, I guess I should make it public here, too. Actually, we meant to wait a little while yet before really publishing the vid, since we wanted to overhaul the 'Peacekeeper' vid first, but, well, it's out there now, so I may as well point everyone who hasn't found it yet there. I'm pretty proud of this vid. AnduraNova still thinks 'Everybody Hurts' is better than 'Poison', but I think they are about on par. It was great fun to make, too, even if it made AnduraNova's husband realise that we're perverts. *g*

Go here to download it: ScapeSisters videos

7.) Apart from the dishes I'm feeling fine.

I'm sweating so much I can't work properly. My hands keep slipping when I try to bend the metal. Frell.

a pointless post on what I did after the 'Zwischenprüfung' and what I'm going to do next. And why this journal will have a lower priority for a while still.

For months and months I have postponed things I wanted (or had) to do that were not absolutely necessary, because *something* always was more important. Getting my application papers for Birmingham ready. Getting my paper on early bronze age daggers ready. Preparing for the exam.

Prioritizing is important. I know that. But it is also frustrating if you have to always put the things you really want to do on the back burner. Things like writing fanfic, making jewellery, rebuilding my website, posting on forums, doing various Save Farscape related stuff, updating my LJ... So, I've 'saved up' a whole lot of Things I Want To Do (and a few I Have To Do, too), and now I'm going to do as many of them as possible. In fact, I started immediately after the exam. On that one day, in less than 12 hours, I made three simple rings, burned a dozen CDs, edited my fic, built one new page for my website, watched two eps of Angel (I'm still in S3! And I'm just as far behind on Buffy!!), cooked dinner, called some people, gave feedback on the first version of the next Scape Sisters video, sorted an about knee-high stack of paper that had accumulated on my desk... in other words, I got a lot done.

On Friday, the day after that frightfully effective day, I mostly met friends (and battled with the washing machine, but that's another story). We had our monthly Farscape meeting, an old friend who's so far avoided our congregations decided to join us, and we had a very nice evening. The next day was similar, only that I just met one friend (that same old friend, in fact), and we watched some Stargate. (Yes, I'm trying to look beyond the rim of the FS plate. After one and a half seasons of SG I find it not particularly exciting, but nice in a harmless, popcorn kind of way. I'd never write fanfic about it, but it's watchable, and a few eps had rather nice ideas behind them.)

Well, and these three days are very good examples of how I intend to spend my last few weeks in Germany before I leave for Birmingham: getting all kinds of things done that I missed doing in the last seven months or so, and meeting my friends as often as possible (and meeting *as many* of them as possible, I might add! - *waves to [livejournal.com profile] elbatsnud, [livejournal.com profile] dunkle_feuer, [livejournal.com profile] ankae*)

So, if you're not reading any updates here, or not many updates, anyway, it's likely that I'm doing one of the following:

- writing or editing fic
- rebuilding my website
- making jewellery
- catching up with a dozen series I'm way behind watching
- reading
- hanging out with friends

In other words, I have a life! ;-)

Nah, I'm just kidding. I don't mean to say that updating your LJ equals having no life! And since much of the stuff I intend to do is fannish in nature I'll probably update rather more often than usual. But in case I'm *not* updating, that will be the reason.

In other news, I burned a hole into a very old favourite t-shirt of mine today. Which is noteworthy because it's actually the first 'casualty' (apart from various cuts in my fingers and burns on my hands and a ripped-off bit of hair etc.) of my goldsmith's work in uhm, ten years or so. I've never damaged my clothing before; only myself *g*.

Well... I'll be back with something more interesting soon, I expect.
hmpf: Cole and Ramse from the show not actually called "Splinter" (Default)
without warning when the pressure becomes too much.

I've been away from LJ for a few (2?) weeks, I think, and I feel terribly out of the loop, but what with getting sick and having to prepare for the 'Zwischenprüfung' and England and other stuff I simply *had* to reduce my online life. Drastically. Again.

So I moved to my parents, 'cause 1.) their place is much less hot than mine - where I live it was virtually impossible to concentrate on *anything* in the last few weeks, and 2.) they only have the most rudimentary online access. I've been barely able to check my mails, once or twice a week. Which was good for the 'Zwischenprüfungs' preparation. It was also good for my writing - I've written a lot, 'cause, you know, you can't cram knowledge into your head 24/7. ;-)

Now I'm back home, and back on line, though I still have four more days of revising for the exam before I can join the online community as a full time member again (wish me luck on Thursday...).

So, this is just an apology to everyone who hasn't heard anything (or very little) from me recently. I haven't forgotten you. I'll be back soon.

And, before I sign off to return to the bronze age ;-), a short fandom activity update:

- My first HP (and first slash) fic is almost finished, I'm going to do a last revision tonight. Actually, I sent what I thought was the final version to K'immie who's agreed to be by britreader already, but I discovered I had to rewrite part of it later. I rather like the story so far (only time will tell if I will still like it when I re-read it in a year or so) - in the two or three weeks I've been writing it's been rewritten close on 20 times, and I think it's really pretty good by now. Or at least as good as I can make it, with my still limited skill. It's short (4 pages, which seems to be my standard length for 'quickies') and depressing, as it should be. It's called, not without some degree of irony, 'Together'.

- I got feedback! For 'Mann Mit Mantel', which still is my most popular piece, but still... it's been so long since I last got feedback for that essay that I don't even remember. Probably a year or so. (The last feedback I got for anything was in March, for 'Epilogue'.) Anyway... that considerably brightened my day, and strengthened my resolve to rebuild my website as quickly as possible.

- The Scape Sisters have been at it again... We had a fun-filled evening yesterday, collecting material and creating the concept for a Scorpy/John vid, as well as trying to fill the holes that still plague our Braca/Scorpy vid. Sometime during the evening - we were watching 'Into the Lion's Den', loudly expressing our delight at all the John/Scorpy goodness - I remarked that we were like three old beer-bellied men watching porn... the Sisters didn't disagree.

- I re-read some of my old fics. Lots of stuff I would change now. But I guess one has to stop rewriting sometime, and just accept that a story is finished, and that one never will reach perfection, anyway. 'This Is Your Time', though, is so bad it really hurts. I probably should take it off my website, but then, I have the soul of an archivist - I want my *complete* works on my site. But maybe I should move it further down the fic list, so it isn't the first thing people will read.

- Scapekid has beta'd 'Simple Things 1: Rise and Shine' for me. I've had some issues with parts of that story for some time, though I'm very proud of other parts of it (namely the Chiana bit), and Scapekid had issues with exactly the same parts, and helped me a lot by clarifying what the problem is/might be. I've had the story removed from Leviathan, and will resubmit it when I've done a thorough revision. No compromises this time. (Last time I submitted it I had a nagging suspicion that something was wrong with the story, but couldn't put my finger on the problem, and so submitted it despite the feeling.) Who knows, I may even get feedback this time, if I manage to make the story as good as possible. ;-)

- And even more news from the writing front: for no good reason at all I translated my HP fic to German! And I even like the German version! Of course, now that I'm about to change a few things in the original English version I'll have to change the translation, too, but overall, I'm really pleased - even though it was a very fast translation, done in about 2 hours.

- Last, but not least, I'm soon going to be blue again, soon. A whole bunch of people from the farscaped mailing list will go to the Bochum comic fair 'cause Virginia Hey will be there, and we'll have a Scorpy and, well, me as Zhaan. Only this time I'll try and make the costume and make-up more convincing. We'll have a table there and will try and promote Save Farscape. :-)

Well... so much for my geek activities. I'll sign off now. Too much to do still...

The first Scape Sisters video is available now at Dallascaper's site, www.farscapefantasy.com (direct link: http://www.farscapefantasy.com/videos/index.php?set=video&id=203) Feedback so far is great. Bet that's working wonders for AnduraNova's self-confidence, eh, sis'? ;-)
hmpf: Cole and Ramse from the show not actually called "Splinter" (Default)
... left me with sudden surges of love for my two partners in crime, Dashan and AnduraNova. (Please, everybody who's reading this -- no jealousy... I love you, too! *g*)

So, we were at Dashan's today, watching and discussing our latest work in progress ('Peacekeeper' by Fleetwood Mac), and indulging in (fan)girl talk... Heh... I'm not the only one who's developed a strange fondness for a male with a tail this week! And the guy AnduraNova is currently fond of is actually even weirder than mine! LOL... Oh, and we watched the cats, of course. Watching cats is always a worthwhile pastime. So is eating, and drinking tea.

Is it normal to be so deeply grateful to have certain people in your life?
hmpf: Cole and Ramse from the show not actually called "Splinter" (Default)
But first: Welcome to Livejournal, selenaK. I used to know how to link to people here, but I've forgotten... Anyway, glad you found your way here. I would have sent you a code, too, if only I still had one! I've found that a blog is a nice way of keeping in touch with several people at once - instead of mailing everybody, you just post the latest exciting ;-) news from your life in your blog, and everyone you know can read it... Very convenient for lazy mailers like me! Mind you, I'm a lazy blogger, too. As you can see by the length of time between entries here...

Anyway... my biggest news today: I've been filked. How cool is that? I'm exceedingly flattered... and it's a Farscape filk, in a way, too!

So, here goes. This is sung to the tune of 'Pinky and the Brain', and the Annie mentioned in it is Annael, a friend and fellow scaper from a Tolkien board I'm at. This was written by our board bard Inferno:

They're Annie and The Hmpf!
Yes, Annie and The Hmpf!
One is a German
The other's had enough.
They're Farscape fanatics
Their show has been frelled
Uncanny!
They're Annie and The Hmpf, Hmpf, Hmpf, Hmpf
Hmpf, Hmpf, Hmpf, Hmpf
Hmpf.

Before each night is done
Their plan will be unfurled
By posting pics of Crichton
They'll take over the world.

They're Annie and The Hmpf!
Yes, Annie and The Hmpf!
Their Save 'Scape campaign
Is easy to explain.
To prove their Farscape's worth
They'll overthrow the Earth
They're Annie
They're Annie and The Hmpf, Hmpf, Hmpf, Hmpf
Hmpf, Hmpf, Hmpf, Hmpf!
Frell!

Heheheh...

Other news from the Farscape front: AnduraNova, Dashan and I have started a vidder collective. So far, we've done two vids together, or rather, AnduraNova has done all the hard work, and Dashan and me have offered our, uhm, advice on everything from scenes chosen to length of snippets and style and placement of cuts. We've chosen the name 'Scape Sisters' for our group because, you know, we're on a mission from Scape... Oh, and our next vid will be shippy... Scorpy/Braca shippy. *evil cackling laughter*

In other news... Real Life in the guise of university is beginning to take up time again, and I still have 30 hours to work, too, plus I'll have to do some sports this semester if I want to survive the excavation this summer... so I'll likely be very busy these next few months.

Oh, and this is for all the Harry Potter people who are reading my LJ: you will be happy to know that I have finally seen the light. In the shape of Sirius Black.
*g* I doubt I'll actively enter the fandom - I recognise an obsession when I see one, and this *isn't* one - but I really like Sirius. Like Lupin, too. I hope they're both going to reappear in volume four?

Okay. Back to dinner now. I'm hungry. Very hungry.
