Post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous.

Pick out the title that most intrigues you, or appeals to you, or whatever, and I'll post a snippet!

You know I always like flaunting my WiPs. I'm diverging from the rules a bit: I won't post *every* title - because for many WiPs there are actually up to three or four dozen different files with different titles, and you really don't want a hundred titles here for just twelve or fifteen fics, do you? So I'm only picking the most recent version for each of them. Oh, and I'm including the bunny folder, so a few of these really don't consist of more than a sentence.

Deep Space Nine:

The Desk of Al Lorenzo

Doctor Who:

Doctor 9

Farscape:

Dead Man's Jacket
Untitled Terra Firma fic
Terro(u)rists
Aeryn idea (how's that for non-descriptive. *snerk*)

Harry Potter:

A Black and White Picture

Hellblazer:

Untitled Chas fic

Highlander:

Found in Translation
Between Countries
Flaking Paint
Imagine

Life on Mars:

Back to the Future/Maggie Doesn't Live Here Anymore/The MAD Doctrine
Borderlands
An Impossible Epilogue to an Unwritten Fic
Möglichkeitssinn
Round the Bend in Eighty Days
The Man Who Fell to Earth (don't bother asking about that one: a snippet from it was actually recently posted here, to near-zero interest. *g*)

cut for pointless memeage )

Sorry. You know I don't usually do memes. But I'm bored and at work, and always curious about gender stereotypes. So, there.

(Catching up with [livejournal.com profile] calime33's lj at the moment, so that's where I found this.)

A meme

(Not yours yet, [livejournal.com profile] tgifa, but I'll do that, too.)

1. Copy and paste your LJ Friends List into an update and leave behind an LJ Cut.

2. If you've met them in person or otherwise know them from the offline world, bold their screenname. If you've only talked to them on the phone, italicize their name. If you've only talked to them online, leave their name alone. If you have someone on your Friends List who has multiple LJ's, only use one and get rid of the rest from the list. If you met them in person first, underline their name.

3. Post and let other people copy the meme.

Three notes/disclaimers:

1.) I wasn't sure if I was supposed to underline people I'd met offline before I met them online, or before I'd friended them on LJ. Since my internet life predates LJ by quite a few years, there are a lot of people I met online first, *then* met offline (at cons or whatever), and then, sometimes years later, found on LJ again. I decided to go with underlining them instead of bolding them, to distinguish them from people I really met on LJ first.

2.) Not all of the people I've met I'm actually still (nor ever was) in close contact with, so don't be too impressed with the great number of underlined and bolded people here. *g*

3.) There are a few I'm actually not sure about. I didn't bold or underline them, but I may have met them at some fan gathering or other. (celandineb, enlight_bystand, keozen, and nearly everyone from HL fandom.) It's kind of hard to remember who you met after five days of something like Worldcon, or even just three days of HLWW7. *g*

Wow, I'm low on emotionality. 3?!? I'm positively a Vulcan!

I have to say overall this is fairly accurate, especially the detailed version.

Actually, I hate memes and tests, I'm not really sure why I'm doing this. Oh, yes, to avoid work, of course.

This is ancient, but this is the first time I happen to have something more interesting than a boring old textbook near my computer. Taken from [livejournal.com profile] cyberducks

Here are the rules:

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 4 sentences on your LJ along with these instructions.
5. Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest.

"Everyone feels like that in these gardens sooner or later, though usually not so quickly. It would be better for you if we stepped outside now." She said something else as well, something I could not catch. Far off, I seemed to hear surf pounding on the edge of the world.

(Gene Wolfe: The Book of the New Sun, part 1. On my desk currently because of several threads I'm watching at the moment. One's here, and one's on sf-fan.de.)

1.) A meme that's actually a pretty nice idea:

Rec-Go-Round: Rec me one story you've written that you're proud of, any genre, here on my LJ.

Then go forth and ask the same in yours.

(From [livejournal.com profile] scottishlass.)

2.) Preparing for a study trip starting tomorrow morning. I'm stupid:

Witness exhibit A: I am suddenly having doubts if I actually handed in my formal application for vacation time at work. Arrgh. Am too ashamed to call and ask, but I guess I will have to. Thing is, if I *forgot* to hand it in, I should be at work now. Double arrrgh.

Witness exhibit B: Of course, if I had realised that the trip only starts tomorrow, I wouldn't have had to apply for time off for today in the first place. Unfortunately, calendars and me, we're not friends.

Witness exhibit C: I forgot to wash my trousers. Now I'm all out of clean trousers, and there's no time to wash and dry them anymore. I suppose I could wash them and put them on the radiator for the night, and hope they'll be dry before five a.m., which is when I have to get up and get ready to leave. Guess that's what I'll do. *sigh*

Stupid.

Top Ten(?) signs you're reading fanfic by Hmpf:

1.) Atmosphere trumps plot/action.

2.) Dark, bleak, angsty, but possibly there's a shimmer of hope at the end. Sometimes.

3.) The protagonist is decidedly not a normal human being and the root of their problems is decidedly not within the range of normal human experience.

4.) Very rarely more than one protagonist. If there is more than one, the story is probably a series of vignettes, one for each character, instead of showing any kind of interaction between them. (Exceptions do exist.)

5.) It's All About the Introspection, Baby!

6.) Actually, it's all about the description. *And* the introspection.

7.) Lyricism occasionally veering into purple prose.

8.) If there are several characters interacting, there is a lot of not understanding going on.

9.) Style and formatting may be a bit experimental.

10.) Dialogue may need work.

Well. I think that's pretty much it.
