hmpf: Cole and Ramse from the show not actually called "Splinter" (meta)

Top Ten(?) signs you're reading fanfic by Hmpf:

1.) Atmosphere trumps plot/action.

2.) Dark, bleak, angsty, but possibly there's a shimmer of hope at the end. Sometimes.

3.) The protagonist is decidedly not a normal human being and the root of their problems is decidedly not within the range of normal human experience.

4.) Very rarely more than one protagonist. If there is more than one, the story is probably a series of vignettes, one for each character, instead of showing any kind of interaction between them. (Exceptions do exist.)

5.) It's All About the Introspection, Baby!

6.) Actually, it's all about the description. *And* the introspection.

7.) Lyricism occasionally veering into purple prose.

8.) If there are several characters interacting, there is a lot of not understanding going on.

9.) Style and formatting may be a bit experimental.

10.) Dialogue may need work.

Well. I think that's pretty much it.

Iain M. Banks's style reminds me a lot of yours, especially the varying format types

but, dude... Banks is all about the Giant Exploding Spaceships. And Orbitals. And Megaships. So. Not. Me.

I know... I was just joking. And I really do think Banks puts a ridiculous emphasis on things going BOOOM. (Not that I mind, either. I partly read him for the mind-boggling gigantomanic destruction.) Though perhaps that's just Consider Phlebas. *note to self: get to reading the next Banks book*

Just out of curiousity, was your assessement based on my own analysis of my writing, or have you read anything I've written? I'm just curious because I thought only fans of the shows in question read my fic.

If you're interested, I could send you a CD of the comic! It's the bomb, too *g*. Full of totally crazy ideas. A man who can turn into furniture. A man made from dead skin flakes. Etc. Makes you wonder how it could ever be published by a mainstream publisher (DC was apparently very daring, for a while.)
