Today the angsty icon means celebration:

"Back to the Future" (aka "the nuclear war fic") is considerably better, and considerably (i.e.: half a page) longer now than it was yesterday. YAY!
Also, Sam really has no reason to look this angsty anymore: I just released him from mental hospital, after all... ;-)
Also, I watched half an ep of LoM today, for (nearly) the first time in two years or so, and it didn't hurt! As a side-effect, I've again fallen madly in love with the back of Sam's head/neck...

I also took a look at that one, unpublishable fic that only
space_oddity_75 knows. Hadn't looked at it in a long while... Was pleasantly surprised to find it rather better than I remembered. I found quite a few really nice sentences, observations etc. in it. However, it is also still (and, of necessity, always will be) annoyingly unpublishable. It has a Gene who mostly just doesn't work - that could be fixed, with the right beta, and a bit of practice; alas, it also has a Sam who only - mostly - works if you live inside my mind - and that can't be fixed, because it's sort of the foundation of the entire story.
It's also, annoyingly, probably the longest story I've ever written. I say 'annoyingly', because it annoys me that one of the only longer pieces I've ever written will never actually be shared with an audience larger than one (or perhaps two, or three. I'm not sure, but I may have shared parts of it with
jazzymegster once. And I think
space_oddity_75 may have shared it with someone once, but maybe I'm getting my unfinished fics mixed up.)
There's a faint chance that I may be able to fashion it into something of an impossible, virtual epilogue to the as-yet-unwritten Huge Scary 2.08 Survival Fic I've been talking about for years. But, as that fic is a huge and scary and thus probably doomed project, that seems like a long shot.
:-(

Anyway, yay for Back to the Future! I'm really excited about this! Five pages down, and maybe two more to go, I think... Possibly even less.

Re: Approaching six and a half pages now, btw.
Date: 2010-06-25 10:38 pm (UTC)Yes, I am that shallow. Here, take this icon and think of this as radiation-poisoned Sam if you like. Made it with the 1973flashfic zombies challenge in mind, but never used it for that (my "zombie" ended up being Gene). I still can't look at this picture without thinking of Sam groaning, "Braiiiins," though.
Re: Approaching six and a half pages now, btw.
Date: 2010-06-25 10:48 pm (UTC)Come to think of it, I recently resurrected my ancient zombie!Sam fic, too. That one was the first LoM fic I started, back in, err, 2005? 2006? It's been kind of stalled since then, but I recently re-read the first two pages - all that I have, so far - and found them quite nice. So I may tackle that again, once I'm done with the nuclear fic. Though I should probably focus on the Sandman crossover first, then, because I have more of an idea where that's going, and also, I really *love* what I have of that so far.
Your icon doesn't work for my radiation-poisoned Sam so well, though: too much hair! (And too young, too. Sam's almost fifty when the war happens.)
(I'm giving a grossly incorrect impression of my nuclear fic here, really. Sam spends all of three paragraphs or so hairless. I'm not really dwelling on it much.)
