as I am almost indescribably exhausted today. Just needed to tell the world that today, while sitting bored out of my mind, tired, cold, hungry and aching in my last seminar (which for some reason took nearly until ten in the evening tonight, arrgh), I wrote almost an entire scene of Back to the Future. I heaped a bit more misery on Sam, I'm afraid - though it's nothing I haven't been planning for years; and nothing that will result in any permanent damage. ;-)
Also did several rounds of rereading and revising on the way to work (bless those long bus rides..) I'm fairly sure now that the first half of the story is nearly as flawless as I can make it (which means: not *really* flawless, but certainly pretty good), while the latter half has some pretty serious problems still.
I also noticed that the war happens in the year when Sam hits fifty. What a rotten birthday present. Sorry, Sam! :-(
ETA: Is it wrong that this icon in conjunction with this post makes me grin?

Today the angsty icon means celebration:
May. 2nd, 2010 10:47 pm"Back to the Future" (aka "the nuclear war fic") is considerably better, and considerably (i.e.: half a page) longer now than it was yesterday. YAY!
Also, Sam really has no reason to look this angsty anymore: I just released him from mental hospital, after all... ;-)
Also, I watched half an ep of LoM today, for (nearly) the first time in two years or so, and it didn't hurt! As a side-effect, I've again fallen madly in love with the back of Sam's head/neck...
**
I also took a look at that one, unpublishable fic that only
space_oddity_75 knows. Hadn't looked at it in a long while... Was pleasantly surprised to find it rather better than I remembered. I found quite a few really nice sentences, observations etc. in it. However, it is also still (and, of necessity, always will be) annoyingly unpublishable. It has a Gene who mostly just doesn't work - that could be fixed, with the right beta, and a bit of practice; alas, it also has a Sam who only - mostly - works if you live inside my mind - and that can't be fixed, because it's sort of the foundation of the entire story.
It's also, annoyingly, probably the longest story I've ever written. I say 'annoyingly', because it annoys me that one of the only longer pieces I've ever written will never actually be shared with an audience larger than one (or perhaps two, or three. I'm not sure, but I may have shared parts of it with
jazzymegster once. And I think
space_oddity_75 may have shared it with someone once, but maybe I'm getting my unfinished fics mixed up.)
There's a faint chance that I may be able to fashion it into something of an impossible, virtual epilogue to the as-yet-unwritten Huge Scary 2.08 Survival Fic I've been talking about for years. But, as that fic is a huge and scary and thus probably doomed project, that seems like a long shot.
:-(

Anyway, yay for Back to the Future! I'm really excited about this! Five pages down, and maybe two more to go, I think... Possibly even less.

Further proof...
Nov. 5th, 2008 01:42 am... that I am a very sick individual:
I am currently having far too much fun with a comments conversation about making Sam die a horrible, horrible death.
(@ Everyone: please, go read Appearances etc., which I recced here a while ago. Ever since finding out that there will probably be a sequel, I've been going frelling batshit CRAZY with speculation bunnies, and I NEED someone I can blather to about this. At the moment I'm mostly spamming the author herself, which, aside from the fact that it keeps her from WRITING (much more important than listening to my blathering!!) also seems to have a disturbing, potentiating effect on our respective evilness; and that *can't* be good for the fic! (Or, well, not for the protagonists, anyway. *snerk*)

Dec. 20th, 2007 01:34 amIrony? Where?
The current Sam Death Count in fic by Hmpf:
Starving on the Jump Down: all about Sam dying.
Round the Bend in Eighty Days: starts with Sam dying (and did so long before series two even began, I may add.)
Möglichkeitssinn: prospect of death on the horizon.
Back to the Future: ditto, though it's partly a utopia, so maybe I'll add a miracle cure.
Miracle: prospect of death on the horizon. Possibly.
Borderlands: starts out with Sam already dead.
How to Love a Madman: alive and well! Honest! (Just a bit insane, but that's par for the course.) *g*

We're having seriously scary, semi-regular IM conversations about different ways of damaging the human body.
I think we're both going to the special hell.
