You identify with the hero who doesn't really want to be a hero, but steps up to the plate when he has to do so.

You also very much identify with the wounded hero, and seemingly the bad boy hero who wonders how the hell he ended up having to be a hero.

You also identify with the brainy hero, the one who actually wins by his wits.

Am I missing something? I don't know who some of those folks are.

Boys who get traumatically stripped of everything they once knew on their journeys to become reluctant or unconventional heroes. Very often, they can never go back home and remain Outside on some level forever.

Heh, while I know even fewer of the fandoms on your list than on kadira's I would say all three of the characters from those fandoms are survivors.

John Crichton, not only survives but makes a life for himself at the other end of the wormhole.
Methos, 5,000 years and counting. 'Nuff said.
The 9th Doctor, last of the Time Lords. Again, 'nuff said.
