Where do I get strange hair colours in Birmingham? Should I buy them online? Some brands apparently aren't available in the UK, especially some that are recommended a lot on most hair colouring websites, but you can get them online. Might save me the running-around-in-the-city...

On the other hand, I *could* just ask [livejournal.com profile] herdivineshadow who is Supreme Queen of Hair Dyeing...

Yeah, I should do that.

ETA: I found Clementine's hair colours online: http://www.manicpanic.com/movie_review.html - Apparently the same brand was also used in 'Lola rennt'. It's the hair colour of the stars.

I've used the Manic Panic blues and greens -- the blues fade pretty rapidly, and you need to bleach out your hair, in both cases, but it's absolutely worthwhile.

In fact, if Selena goes blue, I may go blue too -- I was going to go platinum this summer, but, as I get bored of that after a week or so, I'll just hop on the Manic Panic train. *g*

Problem with Manic Panic is:

if I order from their website, I will have to pay a shipping fee that is about twice the price of the dye!!

So, I'd really rather find a UK-based company. Although Manic Panic sounds good, esp. the 'all natural ingredients' bit...

Fudge is a similar line -- I would be very, very surprised if you couldn't get Fudge in the UK, and their colors are similar to Manic Panic's -- actually, some of the Fudge shades are even better.

How long do the colours last?

Oh, and my hair is a kind of not too dark brown. (http://events.altpeter.de/farscape6/aav, on the left) Except for where it's beginning to go grey... errm... ;-) If I leave the dye in a bit longer, maybe it would work even without bleaching? I only want to dye the bottom part of my hair, anyway ('cause I like that look), so the dye would not be in direct contact with my skin.

Alternatively, of course, I could just bleach the lower parts of my hair and then dye.

If you want the actual bold Manic Panic or Fudge color, you're gonna have to bleach it out. You can conceivably just bleach the tips and then dye them, but I'd absolutely recommend a dye/toner of at least 20 (more likely 30 or 40), for at least one treatment, before applying the color.

Bleached, the color will be spectacularly bold for about two weeks, then fade to a more mellowed color and will stay like that for a good month or so. If you don't bleach your hair, probably two weeks less overall..

Hmm.

I don't really want the colour bold. Oh well, I'll probably first do a strand test on unbleached hair and see how that comes out. :-)

Whenever you read "all natural ingredients", don't forget that the following are also all natural:

a) toadstools
b) marijuana
d) child's livers
e) tiger penises
f) ivory

Personally, I prefer well-tested state-of-the-art 100%-synthetic chemicals to the above natural products :-)

I think if there were health hazards that would have become known by now.

But, as I said, they probably aren't available hereabouts, anyway.

Sure. But the same goes for synthetic chemicals. I was just making the point that "natural good, synthetic bad" is not a good basis for making buying decisions.

The hairdressing place at the bottom of the Oasis market sells the hair dye I use (Directions) but I have no idea how much it costs there because I always buy my dye when I go home to Watford.

Thanks, I'll check that out.

Well...

you know, one *could* say you have slightly unconventionally coloured hair yourself, you know! So, in a way, if we all start doing strange things to our hair, it will make you stand out less... ;-)

(Not trying to pick on you... you *know* I like your hair. :-))
