hmpf: Cole and Ramse from the show not actually called "Splinter" (depressed)

Two things just occurred to me:

1.) While I am still in England, it is technically simpler and probably cheaper for me not just to buy English books, as I have done obsessively in the last few months, but also to buy English DVDs. Play.com, a fabulously cheap online store, *can* be used from Germany, as well, but there is a certain risk of the DVDs getting withheld by customs - permanently, apparently. Now, play.com currently has this sale where they give you three DVDs for a total of 20 pounds.

2.) Looking over my list of movies that I absolutely love, I notice that I have many of them only on video, in standard television screen format, which often destroys a shot that was carefully framed by the director for the cinema screen. Also, I have many of them only in German, because I used to tape stuff from television a lot. Now, some of those movies are quite expensive to buy on DVD, and some aren't even available. However, a few are among those offered by play.com in that 3 for 20 sale, and another is not part of it but cheap, anyway. The three I could get for twenty pounds are The Truman Show, Dark City, and 12 Monkeys. The one that only costs 5,99 anyway is The Crying Game. The Truman Show I've got on video (English, but tv-formatted), 12 Monkeys I have taped from German tv, and Dark City... well, let's just say I don't have the DVD. The Crying Game I also have taped from German tv.

From these two points follows

3.) I am sorely, sorely tempted to buy those DVDs before I leave Britain, but I feel I shouldn't. It's such a frivolous way of spending money, and I've already spent far too much on books (and even one DVD, recently, 'cause I bought Spirited Away last week) here. It wouldn't exactly bankrupt me to buy these four movies, but I just feel it's wrong to spend even more money that I don't really *have* to spend. There may be more important things to spend it on in the near future...

Arrgh!

Heh... I couldn't watch them, anyway -

don't have a DVD player here!

I may just make a compromise with myself and get the two cheapest ones. That would be The Crying Game and 12 Monkeys (5.99 and 6.99) - those are also the two of the four on offer there at the moment that I don't have in English in some form.
