Actually I have a question that I'm probably not going to get any answers to...

If you're among the people who have only a very vague idea of Radiohead, and have a couple of minutes to spare (experts need not apply):

Based on what you know from the media/your friends/(my lj ;-)), which of these two songs more or less represents your idea of what Radiohead sound like:

Not sure if I can embed the second one (and man, was it difficult to find this... someone's been 'round the net and geoblocked pretty much everything since the last time I searched for RH stuff, it seems! I distinctly remember all this being accessible, a few months ago.)

Or is your idea not represented by either?

Or by both? I mean, obviously they *do* sound like both, as those are both actual RH songs. But I'm interested in hearing which of the two fits your preconception of the band's sound better.

Basically, I'm curious because lots of people have pretty precise ideas about people's ideas about RH. And the tendencies embodied by the two songs above - either the one, or the other - are kind of what people expect people to expect RH to sound like. :D

Hmm, I wouldn't have been able to pick Radiohead out of a line up, that's for sure. I thought I had some idea of who they are, but no. The 2nd song is how I would expect then to sound like, in so far as I have any proper thoughts on it at all!

I'll admit I didn't make it all the way through either song - the first because, just no, not me at all, and the 2nd because I am actually procrastinating at this moment in time and must GO AND MAKE A PHONE CALL, EEP!

Well, first, thanks, and also, I HOPE YOU MADE YOUR PHONE CALL! :D

And, just as a footnote: Neither the one nor the other song are actually representative of RH's range. And actually, now that I think about it, I should probably have chosen either something a bit more ballad-like or something more anthemic for my first example, because they're really associated, in that period, with 1990s stadium rock anthems and rock ballads. I just wanted an example from that period that wasn't necessarily one that everybody knows; but the one that I ended up choosing is perhaps a bit too far up the "noisy" end of their range at that time. They were rarely that noisy, really (although their breakthrough song was a noisy one). They were really heartbreakingly beautiful, a lot of the time. You probably know this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXAaKALfmWA - That was the first song of theirs that made me sit up and notice, back in '95, when it was all over MTV. :-)

(Don't feel obliged to watch unless you're actually curious. I am well aware that I'm blathering. What can I say, I just *like* talking about RH. :D)

And now I've left you with the impression that RH are predominantly sad. Which, yeah, kind of, but also... no.
