RTD Master? Every bit as annoying as I expected, sadly.

Ahahahaha. You're watching it. I pity you. Which is a bit hypocritical since I've never seen more than five minutes of Simm!Master at a stretch because I cannot stand him.

Yeah, he's majorly annoying.

I did like the phone conversation with the Doctor and him talking about the destruction of Gallifrey, mind. But the rest? Blergh.

On the whole, though, I'm enjoying the Tenth Doctor eps more than I thought I would. They can't hold a candle to the Eleventh Doctor's first series, but there's enough sense of wonder, enough moments of silly fun, and, surprisingly, also the occasional Tenth Doctor character moment I enjoy to keep me going, and fairly enthusiastic at that. Doctor Who is a bit like the Star Wars extended universe, I suppose - you don't necessarily love every bit of it, and there's parts that are just dire, but the universe as a whole is... an epic kind of fun. Or a fun kind of epic. Anyway, yeah. I'm sort of back on the Who wagon. With some reservations.

When I reach the end of this season, I'll have watched ten series of Doctor Who, roughly. All of Doctors 3 (minus one ep I couldn't find), 9, and 11; the first series of Doctor 4, and the first two of Doctor 10. Plus some eps of Docs 1 & 2, but I only have a handful of those. I have about fifteen complete series still lying around... :D

Yeah, it's...hard to explain why I hate him so much. He wasn't awful in every single episode - and in some of them, like the Human Nature/Family of Blood duology, he's downright brilliant. And I agree, the universe can be fun. But for me the balance was just...not enough to keep me enjoying it.

There were too many dodgy moments where the Tenth Doctor did unilateral, arrogant stuff that the show clearly wanted me to think was so cool and edgy and didn't I just want him to shed a single tear? When I was really mostly just horrified or angry.

That said, throughout his run, I did keep vaguely going back to it and trying again and hoping this time it'd be better - it wasn't like I salted the earth. It's just it never was.

I think the Star Wars extended universe metaphor is good - there are parts of that I don't even bother going near because I know it'll drive me nuts, and parts I know are vaguely crap but I go through because I want to know more/want more Star Wars. I think the difference is just that I'm not quite as invested in the DW universe as I am in the SW universe. So I get more angry when it doesn't work out well as a tv show because there's nothing concurrent for me to go focus on instead. As opposed to the SW universe where, when I've had it up to here with a certain novel series that's getting released, there are probably three comic series and a game being released in different eras focusing on different characters.
