But first: Welcome to Livejournal, selenaK. I used to know how to link to people here, but I've forgotten... Anyway, glad you found your way here. I would have sent you a code, too, if only I still had one! I've found that a blog is a nice way of keeping in touch with several people at once - instead of mailing everybody, you just post the latest exciting ;-) news from your life in your blog, and everyone you know can read it... Very convenient for lazy mailers like me! Mind you, I'm a lazy blogger, too. As you can see by the length of time between entries here...
Anyway... my biggest news today: I've been filked. How cool is that? I'm exceedingly flattered... and it's a Farscape filk, in a way, too!
So, here goes. This is sung to the tune of 'Pinky and the Brain', and the Annie mentioned in it is Annael, a friend and fellow scaper from a Tolkien board I'm at. This was written by our board bard Inferno:
They're Annie and The Hmpf!
Yes, Annie and The Hmpf!
One is a German
The other's had enough.
They're Farscape fanatics
Their show has been frelled
Uncanny!
They're Annie and The Hmpf, Hmpf, Hmpf, Hmpf
Hmpf, Hmpf, Hmpf, Hmpf
Hmpf.
Before each night is done
Their plan will be unfurled
By posting pics of Crichton
They'll take over the world.
They're Annie and The Hmpf!
Yes, Annie and The Hmpf!
Their Save 'Scape campaign
Is easy to explain.
To prove their Farscape's worth
They'll overthrow the Earth
They're Annie
They're Annie and The Hmpf, Hmpf, Hmpf, Hmpf
Hmpf, Hmpf, Hmpf, Hmpf!
Frell!
Heheheh...
Other news from the Farscape front: AnduraNova, Dashan and I have started a vidder collective. So far, we've done two vids together, or rather, AnduraNova has done all the hard work, and Dashan and me have offered our, uhm, advice on everything from scenes chosen to length of snippets and style and placement of cuts. We've chosen the name 'Scape Sisters' for our group because, you know, we're on a mission from Scape... Oh, and our next vid will be shippy... Scorpy/Braca shippy. *evil cackling laughter*
In other news... Real Life in the guise of university is beginning to take up time again, and I still have 30 hours to work, too, plus I'll have to do some sports this semester if I want to survive the excavation this summer... so I'll likely be very busy these next few months.
Oh, and this is for all the Harry Potter people who are reading my LJ: you will be happy to know that I have finally seen the light. In the shape of Sirius Black.
*g* I doubt I'll actively enter the fandom - I recognise an obsession when I see one, and this *isn't* one - but I really like Sirius. Like Lupin, too. I hope they're both going to reappear in volume four?
Okay. Back to dinner now. I'm hungry. Very hungry.

Re: All of the above
John/Rygel: How about the HL title song ? You know - "Here we are, born to be kings, we're the princes of the uuuuuniverse"...
And hey, SOMEONE sooner or later has to do a Scorpius vid to "Sympathy for the Devil".
The Jossverse vids are on their way.
I agree that John still has a basic set of ethics; however, he can go against them at times.
Good point about Sirius really meaning to kill Peter Pettigrew; still, he didn't. (Suddenly I have flashes of Harry yelling "Sirius! I want him to live!") BTW, one of the annoying things about MWPP stories is that they tend to leave Peter out altogether or present him as someone who was obviously bad from the start. Of course, if Peter hadn't been a trusted, integrated part of the gang, and a real friend, Sirius' and Remus' reactions wouldn't make sense. Incidentally, Peter is the first example of a Gryffindor gone bad, which is something of a relief. (I dislike the ideas of kids having a determined fate at age 11.)
Absolutely agreed about the non-harmlessness of Sirius' teenage prank. Snape could have died, and it's awfully tempting to go with the fanfic speculation that the fact that from his pov, Sirius and Remus had been trying to kill him and gotten away with it with no more than a "boys will be boys" slap from Dumbledore might have added to his becoming a Deatheater.

Date: 2003-04-29 01:29 pm (UTC)I haven't because I don't know the song! Who's it by?
>John/Rygel: How about the HL title song ? You know - "Here we are, born to be kings, we're the princes of the uuuuuniverse"...
Hmmm... Rygel - maybe. But John? I dunno... gotta think about it for a bit...
>And hey, SOMEONE sooner or later has to do a Scorpius vid to "Sympathy for the Devil".
Oh, that's a good one! I'll suggest that to the Sisters. :-)
>The Jossverse vids are on their way.
Cool. Thanks.
>I agree that John still has a basic set of ethics; however, he can go against them at times.
And so can Sirius. Actually, I get more mad 'kill! kill! kill!' vibes off Sirius at the moment than I get off John.
>Good point about Sirius really meaning to kill Peter Pettigrew; still, he didn't. (Suddenly I have flashes of Harry yelling "Sirius! I want him to live!")
Well, and that is, basically, what Harry does:
--> "NO!" Harry yelled. He ran forwards, placing himself in front of Pettigrew, facing the wands. "You can't kill him," he said breathlessly. "You can't."
Sirius and Remus did *not* decide on their own to be noble and let Peter live. (BTW, I'm kinda chilled at Remus's behaviour in this scene. I mean, "You should have realised, if Voldemort didn't kill you, we would. Goodbye, Peter."?!? Werewolf or not, he's the last person I would have expected this calm assertion from.)
Another aside: Peter talking to Ron: So. Very. Gollum. - Dumbledore talking to Harry about sparing Peter: So. Very. Gandalf and Frodo.
>BTW, one of the annoying things about MWPP stories
MWPP?
>Incidentally, Peter is the first example of a Gryffindor gone bad, which is something of a relief. (I dislike the ideas of kids having a determined fate at age 11.)
BTW, if Slytherin's run such a great risk of turning to the dark forces - why the frell does Hogwarts even teach them???
Re: All of the above
Date: 2003-04-29 10:38 pm (UTC)Remus "Hi, Peter; bye, Peter" attitude: I don't think it has anything to do with his werewolf background. It's Remus the person feeling betrayed not just because of the James and Lily deaths but because Sirius spent the last twelve years in Azkaban. But I agree, considering Remus is otherwise presented as mild-mannered and the ultimate nice guy, it's startling.
MWPP: Moony, Wormtail, Prongs and Padfoot - the nicknames Remus, Peter, James and Sirius used for themselves. In fanfic, it's a handy short term to indicate a story is set in the "Marauder" era.
Tolkien influences: of course. Though most people equate Peter with Grima Wormtongue, not Gollum, probably due to his nickname. Incidentally, Peter is back in volume 4 as well.
Why Slytherin? Because ambition and smarts and a disregard for the rules are not, per se, negative traits. (Pointed out, among other things, by the Tom Riddle/Harry Potter parallels - in Chamber of Secrets but also throughout the series.) Also, with Slytherin House Dumbledore has a chance to influence those kids whereas if there was no Slytherin at Hogwarts they would get send to a Dark Wizards Only school, presumably, and be doomed for sure.
Interestingly, when one checks the main villains of the books, we get by no means a confirmation of what Ron tells Harry about Dark Wizards coming all from Slytherin:
Philospher's Stone: The villain turns out not to be Slytherin Severus Snape but ex-Ravenclaw Quirrel.
Chamber of Secrets: Tom Riddle aka Voldemort, of course, but as I said, this is also the book which points out the parallels between him and Harry most strongly.
Prisoner of Azkaban: Peter Pettigrew (ex-Gryffindor)
Goblet of Fire: Crouch Junior in disguise; another ex-Gryffindor.
OTOH, really evil Slytherins aside from Voldemort: well, the Malfoys. Draco is a petty bully and Lucius is a ruthless bastard, but neither of them is the main villain in any of the existing books. Snape, as stated earlier, is shades of grey, certainly an antagonist in the sense that he makes Harry's life difficult but not a villain. And the film version of Chamber of Secrets, which was done in consultation with JK Rowlings, shows that Moaning Myrtle (remember, the toilet ghost?) was a Slytherin.
