The reason - one of the reasons, anyway, but an important one - why I wish to see humankind saved from extinction (both in the short and in the long term; this is not really about me and what happens in my lifetime, although I do believe there is a certain risk we may go extinct within my lifetime) is that I'm not sure that there is any other intelligence in the universe that is as silly as us.
And I truly believe that our silliness is a beautiful thing that deserves preserving.
