... as are many others. It's scary. And it makes me angry to see how radically politicians are willing to act to 'save the economy', when I compare it with how little is being done to save us all from something much worse than an economic crash.

And then there's politicians like the UK minister of the environment, who know full well that something radical needs to be done but feel they can't act on that knowledge because the population is not demanding it loudly enough...

Australia's in its 12th year of 'record drought' now...

hmmm i try not to worry about the bigger picture these days (being a geog teacher this topic crops up with alarming frequency) if i worried about all the worlds issues id never get anything done, id fret too much

nicely distracts me from worrying about my everyday troubles. Or rather, nicely puts them into perspective.

Of course, it still kind of sucks to know that, "hey, we may see the end of civilisation as we know it in the next several decades!" - but I think I kind of prefer knowing about that kind of danger to trying to ignore it, even if it's a depressing thing to be aware of. As I said, it helps me to put things in perspective - including the plans I make for my own life.

And now for something completely different: weeeeird! Just yesterday I watched a youtube vid of the Cooper's Hill cheese race! Are you from around there, by any chance? Or is your icon just an expression of a general kind of pride in odd British customsm? I also learned about the Eton Wall Game yesterday, which, I think, is possibly even more bizarre...
