Did you 'get' that the abbreviations in the crossword puzzle were medical abbreviations? Or do I need to put one or two more obvious ones in there? And which ones could I use that people might actually recognise? GCS? FBC?
I *think* it should be obvious enough to other readers, too, because Sam does explain one of the abbreviations, and I think the reader should be able to extrapolate from that (and the usual type/content of Sam's 2006 intrusions) that the rest would be medical stuff, too... but I'd like to make - somewhat - sure that I'm not being too obscure. *g*
- two people who said it was obvious - but they're medical pros/medical geeks - two people with basic or intense knowledge of the show who say they got it, too - two people (answering in a writing comm where I also posted my question) who didn't get it, or at least not initially. (I didn't give them much context, though, so that may have been the problem.)
I got it. Or rather, I didn't get half the references but I got enough to know exactly what was going on and understand the situation - i.e. that Sam thinks the crossword is feeding him abbreviations of medical stuff going on with his real body in a coma.
I think that it's hard to say whether the two people who didn't get it just didn't have enough information. Were they aware the entire show is about a man who thinks he's trapped in a coma and periodically gets odd messages from the "real" world? Because that's kind of a massive clue which I think would crystalise the issue. Certainly I'd be surprised if viewers of the show didn't "get" what was going on...
