Academic perfection?

This sounds like pretty much the perfect concept for a true academic education (shame it's all male; shame also there's only one of it):

Now I'm dreaming of a world that has thousands of little colleges like that (because the system of academic education as it is at the moment is deeply broken).

Any opinions among the academics and students on my flist? I find this idea fascinating.

I know, isn't Deep Springs amazing?

I first read about it in the National Review Guide to Liberal Arts Colleges when Erin was checking out schools (other than Ivy League ones) back in...umm, early '94, I think. And we both moaned because it's for guys only, which was seriously annoying.

Along with St. John's College (another amazing school with the coolest curriculum ever), Deep Springs was atop her "too bad I won't be going there" list.
