Oh, alright...
Aug. 19th, 2004 03:57 amhere's a kind of Life Update. Just before I go to bed.
When I got back from England some seven or so weeks ago, my life was immediately taken over by a much-needed dose of social geekdom. (I'd been missing that in Britain, to a degree. While I managed to make some friends who shared my interests my life there was not as deeply immersed in the social side of geekdom as it is here.)
Literally the first evening in Germany I was persuaded by Nager to join a role playing group, and thus became a weaponsmith... The next morning, I went to the annual big con of the German Tolkien Society with Astrasirona, where we met lots of other friends. Back from the con, I met with, well, not Everyone Else, but at least A Whole Lot of Fellow Geeks from the Frankfurt area that I'd been missing. Meeting everybody again, in some cases after almost a year of not seeing them, was great. Like this kind of great warm wave of geeky gratefulness and love enveloping me. I missed those people. I'm not sure they realise how much I missed them. (I should tell them.)
Nager and Nightsky helped me a lot with getting my room back into shape, and getting all my stuff back into my room. Nager also introduced me to even more role playing groups, and Nightsky introduced me to Carnivale. I went on a day trip with AnduraNova and Dashan, and had sushi with them and, well, basically the whole Frankfurt Farscape 'clique'. ;-) I went cycling with Nightsky, and had my hair dyed by AnduraNova, and had barbecue with, well, again, the whole Frankfurt Farscape group.
I think I already mentioned that I also went to the movies rather a lot, in celebration of the fact that I'm now back in a city with a vibrant cinema 'scene'. You may also have noticed that I had a brush with comics obsession again. ;-)
I do miss Britain and the friends I made there; but I enjoy being back here, there's no denying it. For more than two decades of my life I have hoped to leave this city, but now, with the end of the third decade approaching, I'm happy here, or as near as possible. I live in a very nice apartment in a nice part of town with very nice people; I like being near my family, and I like having this huge social circle (some of which I still haven't managed to contact even though I've been in the country for almost two months now, arrgh! Too busy!!! And some of them are awfully difficult to catch on the phone.)
I'm still busy with far too many things, like trying to cope with the bureaucratic side of being back home, and translating and editing translations, and trying to catch hold of people, and other stuff, and I'd appreciate some peace and quiet to do something like writing, or making jewellery, or catch up with LJ and my e-mail... but on the whole, I really can't complain. Life is good, albeit a bit too busy, as usual.
