hmpf: Cole and Ramse from the show not actually called "Splinter" (Default)

is certainly my favourite pastime, but it has side effects just as serious as getting drunk. . . Returned from a thoroughly fannish afternoon/evening/night at 4 a.m. today and couldn't go to sleep. Now I'm so drained I sort of move and think in slow motion. The interesting thing is, I didn't actually doze off in any of my classes at uni today, as I usually do. I was wide awake. But now I feel like I could just drop dead on the spot.

It was a nice evening, though. Very nice. First I went to see Spiderman with an old friend and a 'new' friend ;-) -- nice movie, definitely a good film to geek out on, and it's especially nice because the hero is such a geek himself! It's in some respects quite realistic -- I could totally believe in Spiderman, but other parts, other characters especially, are decidedly more cartoonish. I couldn't quite suspend my disbelief well enough to believe in the Green Goblin. Willem Dafoe was great, but the costume and mask were just a tad too silly. Still, I'm absolutely intrigued by the ending -- it has the makings of a greek tragedy.

Then I went to see FS 4.02 with a few friends. I've rarely been that confused by an ep of FS, and that's saying a lot! The only thing I can say right now is that the visuals are absolutely beautiful. The story -- well, I'll tell you what I think about it when I've figured out what it was supposed to be about.

Hey, and I should mention the muses bit me Saturday night. They wouldn't let me go to sleep until I'd written almost a page of 'Rise and Shine' -- and it's good! A friend gave me some very enthusiastic feedback for it, so for now, I'm believing in myself as a writer very much. ;-) In fact, I just can't wait to write more. . . But I'm just way too tired today, so I guess that'll have to wait.

That same friend also lent me some issues of the Farscape magazine, the SciFi magazine and Cinefantastique. The latter impressed me very much; it seems to be a great genre magazine -- and I don't just mean the 40 page Farscape extra. There are some insightful and articulate articles in it about humour in scifi, racial stereotyping in Star Wars. . . I'm really seriously tempted to try and find a shop where I may buy it regularly here in Frankfurt. Maybe I'll go and check some comic shops. I've always wished for a genre magazine with some depth.
