What's the predominant wind direction in and around Manchester?

I'm fourteen miles or so out of the city (which, considering I think I'm in the middle of nowhere is kind of incredible!), and our wind direction is mainly from the west/north-west. But that could be because we're in the bottom of a valley? (Thinking about it, though, I think the wind direction's the same up on the moors. OK, yeah. That's my wind direction. Can't think of anyone right now who lives closer and could give you a more accurate answer).
