I'm somewhat baffled by the tininess of the 'slash' tag, though.

But notice the HUGENESS of the ANGST and ROMANCE tags.

So, maybe, um, slash isn't in fact the all consuming medusa monster that some people claim it is?????

I doubt it! For one, look at those tags -- cock worship? undercover gay? hurt/comfort? Second, click on almost any tag, and the stuff that comes up is mostly slash...

I think people don't use a "slash" tag because when you post a story, you choose M/M, F/M, F/F, etc. from a drop-down menu. I don't know why it doesn't show up in the cloud, other than that the word SLASH would be too big to fit on the screen. 8-)

H/C can be het and gen, too, though.

So the menu choices are one level of determinant, and the tags are the more, hmmm, specific? (And yes to the overlap.
