Carla Speed McNeil is making you an offer you can't refuse: buy two books, get one free, all through March.

Since the best version of Sin-Eater is the new all-in-one hardcover edition, and the offer does not include that one, I would probably not buy the Sin-Eater trade paperbacks if I were you. Any of the other volumes, though, are fine - and it's one of the nice things about Finder that you can basically start at any point of the series - you don't need to worry about continuity or anything.

Here's a short guide to help you decide:

King of the Cats: Probably the most straightforward story of the bunch. Native cultures meet DisneylandMunkytown; some political intrigue, some cultural miscommunication ensues, Jaeger does his Finder thing, etc. Here's the first chapter.

Talisman: Every other Finder reader's favourite volume. (Not mine - although I do like it, too.) A story about reading and writing and growing up. Here's the first chapter.

Dream Sequence: McNeil does cyberpunk. Sort of. It took me a while to warm to this volume, because I was invested in the characters from Sin-Eater, and Dream Sequence barely features any of them, but it's now one of my favourites. This is about virtual reality, creativity, escapism. Writing, too. It has the most gorgeous art in the entire series. First chapter here.

Mystery Date: Another favourite. A collection of shorter stories from the life of Vary, - I'm quoting a cover blurb: "a college girl like any other coed studying to be a prostitute whose best mate is a Pomeranian in bondage gear. She has crushes on two of her professors, one of whom looks like a velociraptor. The other may or may not be blind, has written three books that he forbids his students to read and has mechanical ostrich legs. What else do you need to know?"

The Rescuers: McNeil does Greek tragedy. Sort of. As so often in Finder, cultures meet and misunderstand each other - this time with tragic consequences. I find it hard to say anything about this volume, but I do like this one rather a lot, too.

Five Crazy Women: Yet another favourite. *g* The first story that was serialised mostly on the website. This is all about the sex life of Jaeger, Finder's sort-of-central character. First chapter.

Well, I hope that helped, but feel free to ask me about more details on any of these if you want to give Finder a try but are not sure which volumes to pick.

You can also still find the pencils for Voice online, as well as the new ongoing story, Torch
