hmpf: the ears of love (ears of love)

Okay. This is *slightly* premature, which in Hmpf!speak means it's 'only' been in betaing and revising stage for *gasp* a year! Clearly, that is *much* too short for such a long fic. */sarcasm*

Well, actually, I *am* posting a bit prematurely, because one last issue isn't quite taken care of yet. But, you know... only one of my two betas thought it was an issue in the first place, and while I tend to agree that it is, there is also the possibility that we both just need to... relax a bit or whatever, so... here's me giving in to my impatient side for once!

Anyway, if you read this, remember there's one sentence in there that I'm not entirely happy with, and that may change a bit yet. For what it's worth.

So, here goes. First *really* new HL fic by me since 2002 (I think), and first fic finished since April/May 2007, too.

Title: 68 Wives
Author: Hmpf MacSlow
Betas: [livejournal.com profile] amonitrate, [livejournal.com profile] beccatoria
Fandom: Highlander
Characters: Methos, OFCs
Wordcount: 1333
Warnings: None, really. Mild references to sex and violence, nothing particularly explicit.

How to Love a Madman will probably take a couple more days. It's mostly finished, really (I think now), but I still need a medical beta for some details.

You already know I love it and have since you first showed it to me in hardcopy when I was visiting.

And for the record - the linebreak resolves the issue nicely. Not what I would have done, but then it would have sounded like me, not you, so hooray for sounding like you. :)

Das freut mich.

Und Methos ist doch so oder so der Schutzheilige aller Archäologen, oder? ;-)

Also, laut Wikipedia haben die Archäologen drei Schutzheilige:
1. Helena, Mutter des röm. Kaisers Konstantin.

Jedes Wort, jede Betonung passt.

Ich habe es sehr genossen.

Dankeschön.

I do feel a bit guilty, sometimes, at talking about the fics I'm writing for *years* before actually posting them. I imagine that must be annoying to a truly curious reader. *g*

Heh and then you post like... one tantalising line.

It's not annoying just inspires even mooore curiousity. :D

And of course when I finally do post the actual fic it's frickin' 1333 words! It's read in like half a minute! ;-)

I really need to learn how to write faster...

So for some crazy reason, I missed this when you first posted it, so I'm really glad you mentioned it in your journal today.

AMAZING.

I feel like you've been talking about the story for forever, and it definitely lives up to all expectation. Thank you for sharing. :)

Thanks!

Very nicely done, like beads on a string.
The details he remembers seem to take them all out of time; there's an ancient feel to all of them, though it might just be the false archaeology of memory.

Thank you!

They all will be ancient memories in time... I think for all that Methos lives emphatically in the present, he is also always aware of the present constantly turning into past, and eventually into remote past. (How could he not?)

I have another (fiendishly difficult) fic I'm writing about Methos which contains a bit about that - about trying out the past tense when thinking about people. I wish I could get a handle on that fic. It's been refusing to come together for years now. *sigh*
