Too busy to reply; and two links
Sep. 30th, 2008 12:59 amI'm still too busy to reply to the comments of the last few days or make a couple of posts I intended to make. I'll probably tackle the comments little by little over the rest of the week, though.
In the meantime, here's two links I found fascinating:
A very good analysis of the media's systemic inability to convey the urgency of the situation re: global warming. Lack of political will is the biggest stumbling block on our way, true; but the tragic failure of communication that has been going on for several decades now is almost as big a problem...
Letterman on global warming. I disagree with him on the hopelessness - I think we should never, ever, consider ourselves irrevocably and without a doubt 'screwed', because only giving up will *absolutely* ensure that we *are* 'screwed'. Defeatism is never a useful attitude to have. But it's fascinating to see a reasonably high profile tv personality actually openly freaking out about this. The most fascinating thing about the video, though, is how the audience just keeps on laughing throughout it all. (Or maybe it's canned laughter? But why would the producers add canned laughter in this context?)
Right. Off with me to bed now; my back is killing me and I'm tired uncharacteristically early, because I had a horrible night (I was in pain for most of the night and couldn't find any comfortable position to sleep in, and so ended up hardly sleeping at all.)
