Here's a fun little survey taken from Kadira's journal:

*What's on your bedside table?
Don't have a bedside table, so: nothing. There *is* stuff beside my bed, though. Books. Tahar Ben Jelloun: L'enfant de sable; Ivo Andric: Liebe in einer kleinen Stadt; Jared Diamond: Guns, Germs and Steel; J.R.R. Tolkien: Letters

*What's the geekiest part of your music collection?
Hmmm... probably the Farscape soundtrack. ;-)

*What do you eat when you raid the fridge at night?
Not a habit I'm into.

*What is your secret guaranteed weeping film?
Don't have one. I tend to weep when people die on TV, though, if it's not done in too cheesy a way.

*If you could have plastic surgery, what would you have done?
Nothing.

*Do you have a completely irrational fear?
Spiders. *shudder*

*What is the little physical habit that gives away your insecure moments?
Biting my lower lip.

*Do you ever have to beg?
For what?

*Do you have too many love interests?
None, actually. Do obsessions count?

*Do you know anyone famous?
Yes. (Though famous is relative. Does a resonably well-known professional writer count?)

*Describe your bed:
a Hochbett. Sorry, way too tired and drunk to look it up in the dictionary. ;-)

*Spontaneous or plan?
Depends.

*Who should play you in a movie about your life?
A movie about my life would be too boring to consider. I like my life, but it wouldn't make good viewing material!

*Do you know how to play poker?
No.

*What do you carry with you at all times?
Nothing.

*How do you drive?
Rarely. ;-)

*What do you miss most about being little?
Living in a fantastic world, feeling that everything was possible.

*Are you happy with your given name?
I like 'Hmpf' better.

*What color is your bedroom?
Peach. Hate the colour, but since I'm not going to live here long, I couldn't be bothered to paint the walls white, which would be my preferred wall colour.

*What was the last song you were listening to?
Something by Mazzy Star.

*Have you ever been in a school play?
Sort of.

*Have you ever been in love?
Almost.

*Do you like yourself and believe in yourself?
Yes, and sometimes.

*Have you ever done any illegal drugs?
No. I'm boring.

*Do you think you're cute?
I'm afraid I sometimes am.

*Do you consider yourself to be a nice person?
To a degree.

*Do you spend more time with your girlfriend/ boyfriend, or your friends?
Don't have a girlfriend/boyfriend, so, I'm spending more time with my friends. See below. ;-)

Half a caipirinha and a glass of plum wine aren't enough even to render a 'cheap date' like me drunk, these days. But I am slightly tipsy.

So... had a little bout of depression yesterday, visiting my parents. It wasn't their fault, but something about being there depressed me. Strange. Part of it actually had not much to do with my parents. It was my recurring 'friendship is transitory, alas' mood; I kinda became aware that I will lose many of the contacts I have at the moment again when I leave this city to study elsewhere. It's a painful realization, and I want to believe I could keep my friends close to me, at least figuratively, but I already went through one such phase of forced separation, and I know the drifting apart is not something that can be avoided completely. So, I'm a little sad in advance. I have every intention of 'holding on' to the people who are close to me now, but life may object... either on my side or on theirs. I think I might write a Methos fanfic about the loss of friends due to moving on, sometime...

On a more positive note, I had a nice talk with one of my professors yesterday and due to this talk I now have a subject for one of my papers that I *really* like. I'm to write about the construction of 'distinction' by popular culture audiences and producers, as exemplified by Farscape fandom and writers! Yay! I actually managed to find a subject that fit my, errm, interests *and* the course's subject! I think this will be fun... The other paper I have to do is not so much fun, I'm afraid. The subject is 'What is the status of culture in the writings of Waldo Frank?'
To return to the Farscape paper for a moment... To 'sell' this idea for a paper to my prof I had a loooong discussion with him, about one and a half hours, in English, about Pierre Bourdieu and his ideas of 'distinction', and about the way these ideas can be applied to Farscape fandom and fandom in general. It was fun. I just love to talk English, even though I am aware my accent is terrible (need to go to an English speaking country to lose that!), and the prof I was talking to understood my interest in TV shows to a degree - his subject of study is 'Seinfeld'! :-) So, that was a nice event in my Real Life. Gotta love it when Real Life and obsessions converge....
