Or rather, advice on medical vocabulary. [livejournal.com profile] tiniago? [livejournal.com profile] stabbim?

Specifics: I need acronyms, several of them (say, between five and ten) for conditions/procedures/technology/treatment connected to brain injuries and/or coma (this is a LoM fic). One of these should be something that might be considered as crucial to a 'solution' for Sam's prolonged coma, either a procedure or technology that may not have been tried on him before, or a condition they've begun to suspect he might have or whatever. It doesn't have to be particularly *likely* - something he may have heard from someone who was speculating wildly within earshot would be okay. (I'm not actually writing medical dialogue here - the 'information' turns up in Sam's world in a rather transfigured form, but its being part of some sort of 'solution' is implied by the context it appears in.)

I know it's not a medical acronym, but I had a thought as I was falling asleep, and that thought was "oncology", which I think is the word for cancer, but I couldn't quite remember. It's up to you if you use it or not, but I've been meaning to email you about it and forgetting. D'oh.

You may have got what you are looking for already, but I found this article (http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn9215-sleeping-pill-may-rouse-coma-patients.html) really interesting. There is a lot more information out there on this, but this one sums it up nicely.

(I know the doctors specifically state Sam isn't in a PVS on the show, but if they were getting desperate...)

Hope your presentation went well!
