It was one of those moments where you feel like you (and perhaps only you) may have missed something essential all the time that was obvious to everybody else. For a moment there, I was all "wait a sec... maybe this really *is* what those scenes should be read as" - and if that was the case, wouldn't it be logical if most people *had* read them that way? Hence the sweeping assumptions.
I think that was essentially the mental process. *g* But I'm not at my most awake today...
