I think a good case was made in series one for his death in 1973 and his death in 2006 being linked, so that may just as well have ended with him dying in both 'worlds', I think.

On the other hand, if it worked as a means to return to '1973', then why not the other way round, as well?

*sigh* I wish they had been a bit more consistent, not just with character development but also with the rules of their world.
