hmpf: the ears of love (ears of love)
[personal profile] hmpf
I'm mostly busy with uni and computer stuff at the moment, but in addition to that I'm on a writing kick:

- The BSG ficlet I accidentally 'finished' a couple of days ago, 'Atlas', is going through some rewriting, with a little help from [livejournal.com profile] beccatoria who says, "I agree with your assessment, it's not your best work, but it *is* good, and there are some sparkling moments there." Heh. I happen to agree with her aggreeing with my assessment. ;-)

- I've taken another look at one of the three old Methos fics I'm revising, though that wasn't very successful. Maybe I should just leave them alone, after all? I dunno... I seem to be well and truly stuck.

- I've been working on my two Life On Mars fics, mostly just revising what I already have (two pages of the one, and one page of the other). My recent medical research pretty much killed one of them, so that needed some serious revising; the other was just a bit sketchy and needed some fleshing out. Both has been accomplished to my satisfaction, for the time being.

- I'm five wives away from finishing '68 Wives'! Well, or at least from creating the 'meat' of the story. As usual, I'm a bit hazy on what kind of structure I want to put that meat onto, but that will be easier to decide once I have all the parts and can lay them out in front of me. I'm afraid this will have to be another jigsaw puzzle...

ETA: Heh. It just occurred to me that I could let you guys do some of the thinking about the remaining wives. So: it's Suggest a Wife time! Suggest something interesting, and 'your' wife may well make it into my fic! (Yes, I'm feeling a bit silly today... but, you know, I'm half serious about this...)

He was Marilyn Monroe's secret lover.

Or, at least, once flirted with Mary Reade?

Again, not a wife...

but I could do some research to see if there's space for interpretation... ;-)

There's room, because she vanished after being released from prison. Maybe she ran away with Methos and they ended up living on a turtle boat somewhere in the Carribean. It could happen! Couldn't it?

Apart from that it's an intriguing idea, though...

The always-tired lady who drove the schoolbus for the kiddies in the early 70s. (America, of course; don't know how they got the kids to school in Europe).

Not sure about the 20th century...

I kind of have too many wives for that century already, and also, in my mind Methos was last married in the 1930s (I don't get a 'recently married' vibe off him. *g*)

I really like your idea, though. :-)

no worries. my thought was of a woman who was forever tired, and wondered what life would be like married to her. In terms of a job, all I could think of was those schoolbus ladies, but I'm sure there are other jobs or times that wear one down.

And she's not nearly as interesting as being part of any royal court by proxy. -g-

Hmmm... a school marm in the Dakotas in the 1800s, or how about the widow of the Iceman? The guy they found frozen in the Alps from 5000 years ago. I guess that would have to be his first wife [g]

I'm afaid I already have his first wife...

but there may be space for a schoolmarm. We'll see... (Actually, the positions left to be filled are all in the first half of his life, but perhaps I can relegate a few of the later wives to the first half. Some descriptions are vague enough for that to be possible, I think.)

Oh, I was just indulging in a bit of sleepy pre going to bed sillyness :) I'm looking forward to reading when you're done!

There clearly must be something in the water *g*

I'm busy with uni as well, but somehow managed to produce a totally wacky perfectly fine 400 word Ten/Reinette/philosophy-fic in under two days...

Oh, and whatever is causing this, it obviously interferes with my ability to use HTML tags.

Well, I'm quite sure not all his wives were memorable, or glamurous, or...
What about Mrs. Average Run-Of-The-Mill Wife? With average demenour, intelligence and prefence for quiet life, who grew up, went to school, met dear David/Ben/Michale, got married, had a job, argued with her mom...had one minor upheaval in her life when dear D/B/M (depending on the time period) most likely fell asleep while driving and crashed the car that burned so badly/drowned while fording a flooded river with the body never discovered/ just disappeared,so that they had to hold a closed casket funeral. The only thing Methos remembers about her is that she liked to sing while cooking, which maybe accounted for her cooking being terrible. And she probably sold their hose and moved back in with her mom.

I didn't say anything about glamourous!

Most of my 61 are very normal. And, considering that none of them gets more than one sentence, there really isn't a lot of space for glamour there, either! *g*

How about the one he never knew he married? The one he lived with for a few years, and when she died, found out they'd been together long enough social custom considered them married (commonlaw marriage). He feels he nearly doesn't know her, it should be her family burying her and mourning her, and inheriting all her things. But it's him. (Variation, he didn't realise he took part in a marriage ceremony - a la that Firefly episode - leaves, only to come back years later and discover she's dying, and it falls to him to bury her and take her things.)

Will reply to your email soon! (Later tonight probably. Hooray for second drafts!)
