I just took a look at some of them, and god, there's so much embarrassing stuff in there. I really, really shouldn't try to publish anything in under a couple of months, ever. It always shows. I'm generally happy enough with my non-Lyric Wheel stories which usually only get released after thorough rewriting and editing, but I'm vaguely embarrassed about *all* my LW stories. Bad dialogue, OOC moments, all kinds of small but annoying things. Nothing that couldn't be mended by a few rounds of rewriting and editing, mind you - but that, they *are* badly in need of.
Shame I have so much other stuff to do. But I really should at least edit them a bit sometime soon, if only for my own peace of mind. Especially if I'm seriously re-entering HL fandom, thus increasing the chance of people actually finding my website, and my fic with it...

'Normal' beta is coming along nicely (as in I've read it through for enjoyment and now I'm trying to be writerly and helpfully critical). Sorry it's ended up taking longer than I thought it would. I spent monday until yesterday with a hideous, alien-spawned cold and a sore throat so bad I thought my throat was trying to turn into a hedgehog. Which wouldn't have been so bad but my job involves yelling down the phone to deaf, old people all day. Yay job. Yay temp job that doesn't come with sick leave.
Sorry for all the whining. It's just I don't get sick too often so when I do, I freak out and think I'm dying and EVERYONE gets to hear about it.
On the plus side, I'm now well enough to pronounce your fic ace when read both with *and* without a fever! ;)
SK.

Date: 2006-01-09 12:14 am (UTC)Sorry to hear you've been sick, and I hope you'll feel better soon! And don't worry about the fic, there's no hurry. I mean, obviously I'm sitting here biting my nails with anxiety until it's done, but then, you probably did the same when I said I'd give feedback on your vid and then promply failed to do so for weeks upon weeks! So, as they say, turnabout is fair play! ;-)
But seriously, there really is no hurry, and the anxiety is at survivable levels. *g*
And thanks for the compliments. I reread some of my old stuff yesterday (as in: reread at length, not glanced at for a moment) and saw that it wasn't as bad as it had seemed to me when I made that post. The very first story I wrote in fandom is crap all right, but the rest is decidedly salvageable, with some really nice stuff to balance out the bad stuff in most of them even now. I think I *will* try to rewrite at least one of them sometime, just to see how good I can make it. There's enough good in there for me to want to make it better...
