Need. DVDs. Now.
Like, *right* now.
I haven't fallen in love with a show (yes, it's not just Christopher Eccleston, although he *is* a crucial factor in my enjoyment) this quickly since I watched the first season of Farscape.
The new Doctor Who is *not* a perfect show. There are occasional moments of silliness (unintentional, that is - intentional silliness occurs, too, but I don't mind intentional silliness), and instances where the writers are trying to hit us over the head with a message. But there are also bits of utterly brilliant dialogue, and scenes that are so strong as to be instant classics. But, like Farscape (and Farscape wasn't always perfect, either; very little TV is, really), Doctor Who has a magic mix of fun, and angst, and the sense of wonder that is so essential to sf, and believable psychological drama. I really like quite a few recent SF shows but Doctor Who is the first show that for me replicates some of that excitement I felt when I discovered Farscape. The first show that I've really grown to *love*, and not just appreciate intellectually or something cold like that. Battlestar Galactica and Firefly (and Farscape, too) are probably still a bit better than it - but Doctor Who has so many of the right ingredients that make a show fun, emotionally affecting, and eminently *rewatchable* that I don't mind the occasional less-than-perfect moment.

In other news, I feel pretty good, too. Got a lot done this week, and that's always a good feeling. Didn't sleep a lot, but, well, at least I got things done. Read a lot for uni on Monday, wrote an essay for uni on Tuesday (and didn't sleep), met my Scape Sisters AnduraNova and
dashan on Wednesday and had great food and greater conversation, beta'd a story for
seti_drd (a nice H2G2/DW crossover) on Thursday and wrote a bit myself (and didn't sleep), worked on Friday, worked on Saturday and then had
nager stay over and watched Doctor Who with him and just had a nice general geek-out (and didn't sleep). Slept through most of today, and then did some organising for the Farscape fan table at Worldcon.
And I think I'll go to bed now, in the hope that I'll be reasonably rested tomorrow to continue quite a bit of work for uni, and to start writing a draft for a talk I'm going to give on Sunday at a local SF con about Farscape. That should be easy, as it'll be based on an essay I wrote for uni two years ago, but adapting that for a talk will still take a little bit of time, so I shouldn't stay in bed all day. ;-)

Yes, it was a great moment.
