has [livejournal.com profile] metafandom largely replaced [livejournal.com profile] metablog while I was away? Anyway - fascinating stuff going on there; unfortunately I'm far too busy with Real Life at the moment to engage in the discussion.

Shame.

... I've *got* to ask:

How *do* these people manage to post full-fledged, well-reasoned essays of that calibre on a regular basis and still have a life? I simply *can't* do it. There aren't enough hours in the day to even cope with the normal stuff of living... how do they find the time? What am I doing wrong? Do they all have a TARDIS in the backyard?

Also, a short mention of two comics that rock my socks, though not to the degree of Hellblazer:

1.) Blame!, a manga by Nihei Tsutomu. My love of Blame! is hard to justify, really. It's a 3-D ego shooter of a comic - little plot or characterisation so far, and loads of violence. But the settings... ah, the settings... a megalomaniac architect's nightmare right out of my subconscious. Even if there were no plot at all, even if the pages were just filled with endless images of insane architectural landscapes, I would want to own this comic.

2.) Shade the Changing Man by Peter Milligan. Like Sandman and Hellblazer this is part of the Vertigo line-up, but it's kind of the red-headed stepchild of Vertigo. (Shade literally is a red-head, btw. *g*) Only six issues have been collected in a TPB, out of 75 or so. If Blame! is an ego shooter of a comic, Shade is an acid trip. If you thought Sandman was weird for a comic that came out of a mainstream publishing house, wait till you've seen Shade. Shade is rather impossible to describe, really. I think I'll try some other time, 'cause I should go to bed now.

Peter Milligan rocks!! Have you ever read Enigma? That was a short series by him, published by Vertigo some time ago. I think it totalled six issues in all (ten at the most...It's been a while since I read it). That was bloody weird, and I couldn' figure out the ending. And because of it, I got an obsession with geckos...

*coughcough*

:)

Will check out Enigma, thanks!

Is there a trade paperback? Or will I have to resort to downloads/ebay again?

Hi there! :) I came across your LJ after your Methos story, Endure, was recommended on a friend's LJ. Somehow, I just knew you're a fellow fan of Peter Milligan when I read the story ... and I'm glad to see I'm right! Milligan's work is awesome. I own Enigma and Shade: The Changing Man, and Enigma is well-worth the read too.

Especially since the main guy ends up in a gay relationship with his superhero. *eg*

By the way, you can actually download translated versions of Blame! via http://omanga.net/. Tsutomu Nihei is currently making a new manga series, called Biomega, which is also available from that site. :)

And I hope to read more Methos stories from you. Endure is excellent.

Wow.

Someone who liked 'Endure'!

Don't get me wrong, I love that story, but of all the stuff I've written it's easily the one that gets the least hits according to my website stats, and the least feedback.

Hey, yeah... love Peter Milligan, but I'm only a recent fan of his. I only discovered Shade a few months ago. 'Endure' much predates it (I wrote that years ago.) Thanks for the 'Enigma' rec... will definitely check that out!

Yeah, I know you can download Blame... but I prefer to buy comics I really like in book form. I wish I could buy Shade, too, but there's only one trade out... :-(

As for more Methos fic... well, I've mostly moved to Farscape fandom, writing-wise, but I wouldn't rule it out completely... I still have a few Methos bunnies. Main problem: I don't have a lot of time to write. Haven't written more than a page since the beginning of the year! Arrgh.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback. Oh, and do you think you could give me a link to that rec that led you to 'Endure'? I'm so amazed someone liked it enough to rec it, I'd like to read the rec to bask in that warm glow a bit more...

That is an absolute shame. But, I'm not surprised considering the highlander fandom fics comprises mostly of Duncan/Methos sex slash. Endure is a rare gem, indeed.

I have no idea if Blame! is being translated into english or not, so there's a chance the only way you can get all 10 complete volumes now is to order directly from Japan. :B Apart from that, that website's pretty much the only place to get an english version of it. (And even the translated version can get way confusing sometimes, gyaah.)

And heck, I'd read anything of yours in that same vein of prose. :) I'm already very happy you've shared Endure with all of us.

Well... I have one advantage. I'm German, and the entire series is available in German. *g* I've only bought the first part but will probably buy the second this month.

Well... if you go for the weirdness, you may like 'Epilogue' (that has Methos, too), although I'd say it's not as good as 'Endure'. However, my best bit of weird prose, in my own not so humble opinion, is the Chiana part of my Farscape fic 'Rise and Shine'.

If you like slash I've got a bit of that too, but it's Harry Potter (which I'm not a fan of, strangely enough). It's Sirius/Remus. It's not so weird, though - just depressing. I like depressing. ;-) I'm working on another S/R story at the moment, if you can call writing one page in six months 'working'.

Frell, I want to write more. But I have a job, and uni, and all the thousands of little duties of Real Life to take care of... grmpf.
