Well it's not actually my fave LoM fic - I don't have *one* favourite, really. But it's the one that I got most obsessive about, and even started writing fic about! It's the Undercover series by mikes_girl. Strangely enough it's slash, i.e., not really a genre I'm into. But it was done in a way that I found really fascinating, with full acknowledgement of the reality of being gay in the 70s (and in the police, no less). There are three parts and some short filler fics in between. The author was going to write a fourth part, in which Sam was going to go full-on activist (which would have created no end of problems, of course - not least because Gene is so very deeply in the closet, and kind of has to be, really), and I just... oh god I still want to read that so, so much. :-( I will always want to read this fic, I'm afraid. I've fantasised about the various ways it could play out for... well, years, really, on and off. I still do, occasionally.

As for my DW cravings, well, I've actually read a fair bit in the past few weeks and I'm finally beginning to find some semi-satisfying ones, so maybe there's hope? (I'm mainly looking for certain specific reactions to eps from December, so it's not like the fandom has had time to produce vast volumes of fics yet.)

I'm also trying to channel my frustration into my own writing, which has lain fallow for the past year - and so far it seems to work?!? I mean, it's only been a few days, but I've actually written two evenings out of the last three... and I've been making some notable progress on one fic on which I've been the most intractably stuck for years and years and years?! Let's hope this trend continues for a while! *fingers crossed*
