I learnt to play from books, so I'm sorry I can't offer anything (actually, good job the internet wasn't around when I was learning, or I may never have managed to get anywhere!)
Maybe if you can find something with basic scales in different keys to get you used to where to put your fingers and what it sounds like? (I wouldn't jump in with chords straight away, but that's just my preference).
I'd actually recommend getting a few actual lessons if you can afford to do so before starting on tutorials just because I always find it easier to be shown the basics of an instrument by a human before wandering off with it myself - plus then they might be able to recommend some good stuff? When I was learning I had cheap group lessons at a community centre, but I'm not sure if anything like that exists near you and private lessons can be prohibitively expensive.
Hey there! Thanks for the tip, will definitely consider it. Though the tutorial site I've found now seems quite good.
I will be in Britain around early April, btw. There's a conference in Hertfordshire I'll be attending. May end up doing some additional travelling, depending on available time and money...
