You really sold me on the two of them. Realistically damaged, with just an enticing smidgen of hope, plus genuine love.
The little detail I appreciated the most: Remus reflecting they would have committed murder together, and maybe died for it, and that he still thinks there would have been a rightness in this.
Runner-up: Sirius being masochistic enough to listen to his mother's portrait voluntarily.
