Knitting etc. in America and Germany
Sep. 13th, 2009 11:56 pmThis is fascinating: I just spent an hour or so searching American hobbyist craftwork site etsy and its German equivalent dawanda, looking for warm socks. I didn't really find the type of socks I was looking for; what I did find was the unexpected revelation that America is a country of hobbyist wool dyers, whereas Germany is a country of hobbyist sock knitters. (Alas, they mostly don't knit the type of socks I was looking for. And the Americans, well, they could sell me very pretty hand-dyed wool, but since I can't knit, that wouldn't be of much use to me.)
