I know what you were going for, and I think you captured it well: Sam's preachy, self-righteous tone married to his good intentions, all reflecting his self-interest and yet striving to show a better world 'in the future.' I can see him smiling so proudly at himself over that last line. *grin*
The only question I had was the ref. to the pride flag; according to Wikipedia it was not designed/used until 1978, even then originating in San Francisco. (I didn't know that, I just looked it up because I was wondering). Prior to that rainbow flags were mostly known as a 'peace symbols', I understand. Maybe Sam would write it maybe not knowing it wasn't current? That would be interesting....
Anyway, you are TRYING to inspire me to write more Undercover, aren't you? Oh wait, yes you are, that's not a secret. LOL!
