hmpf: Cole and Ramse from the show not actually called "Splinter" (Default)
Okay. I have no time for a proper update, but I have to share something: sometimes my parents really seriously boggle my mind. Like, for example, today: my parents just called to tell me (among other things) that they liked 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'.

*boggles*

*boggles some more*

*still boggling*

See, this from the man who's been making fun of my love for science fiction for more than a decade. Who can't understand my fascination for 'people with plastic foreheads' (his words) at all. Who was so bothered by the non-human characters and the orcs in Lord of the Rings (the movie - nothing could make him read the book) that he found it impossible to concentrate on the story.

And my mother - who sort of gets *some* of my fascination with the genre, but is far from a fan, and, what's more important, *totally* doesn't get any kind of off-beat humour. Doesn't get Monty Python; read H2G2 once ('cause she actually really trusts my judgment when it comes to books), about 12 years ago, and couldn't see what was funny about it at all.

These two people, whom I would have voted 'two most unlikely people to watch the H2G2 movie on planet Earth", went to watch H2G2 and *liked* it.

And now they're reading the book.

*boggles*

(For those who have to know: I was sort of underwhelmed by the movie - it had a few brilliant moments, but overall it left me, well, not entirely cold but let's say lukewarm. *g*)
