Explanation...
Aug. 12th, 2004 09:57 pmI thought that quote summed up something about my weirder preferences rather nicely, but to give you some context: I was worrying about turning into a shipper in my old age (hey, I'm 28 now! *g*), and about enjoying the, well, for lack of a better word, 'domesticity' depicted by certain drawings by Enki Bilal. Granted, it's a weird kind of domesticity, but still... I've never been one to overly enjoy pics showing couples hugging or kissing, and fanfic about the happy married life and daily chores ;-) of characters X and Y never did much for me. And yet now I'm getting shippy over pictures detailing the love and daily life of Nikopol and Jill. Now, of course, there's something inherently twisted about a relationship that is by definition a ménage a trois between a neurotic/psychotic woman, a temporally displaced, occasionally insane man and an arrogant Egyptian god sharing his body... and of course it's all doomed from the start and very tragic etc. But still... still, I enjoy these pics just about as much for the 'mundane' love as for the twistedness.
To give you a taste:
http://atelierkais.free.fr/atelier/bdillus/bedethek/z/ebleus.jpg (I really like this one. This is sort of what I meant by 'domesticity', above. Okay, so he's fixing his artificial leg instead of a lawnmower or whatever guys fix in a 'normal' household, but there's an air of, well, I dunno, 'the everyday' about it. Maybe what I like so much about some of these pics is how the weird is rendered mundane in them.)
http://darkhbz.free.fr/images/piegeposter.jpg (Another example of weird domesticity. In the bathtub with Horus.)
http://darkhbz.free.fr/images/bilal12.jpg (That's the one Scapekid was commenting on. Warning: nudity. Don't click if you mind that kind of thing.)
But really, I'm not usually much of a shipper. This is a weird new development.
