With vidding, you can't even really *talk* about what you want to do.

Why not? I do it all the time with friends on IM. It's not much different than writing, the only difference is that you've got the visual reference in front of you. Which is so much easier for me since the song initiates the scenes in the first place.

I suppose you could probably just about manage to talk about it if you both had the 'evidence' in front of you. But if you're alone, how are you going to talk about that pesky transition or the frelling opacity level in clip #45 or whatever? It's just not possible. It's like dancing about architecture, to steal a metaphor.

That's when you close your eyes and listen to the song again and let what you envision (what you've done already) unfold. I know I sound like a goober saying that, but it works for me since I'm able to see the story I'm telling.

(and just for a side shot here, I think it's always better to start the opacity level around 45% and render a few seconds of the video to watch separately and judge from there if I need to tweak it)

I know exactly what my vid should look like. I have a detailed script; every second is already planned; in fact, I have a draft that's already video-shaped, so to speak (see last entry on vidding for that draft - there's a link). However, I have very little idea how to *get* there, from a technical point of view. And since I don't know the vocabulary, I can't talk about my problems with more experienced vidders - I wouldn't even know how to *begin*. Now that is very frustrating.

Actually, I have a problem at the moment that's even sort of expressible: How do you make it so that the image flashes to white for a moment? The thing is, the 'help' manual of the program is no help at all, because without a proper vocabularly I can't look stuff up in it.

See, part of the problem is I don't even have the beginnings of an idea of what any of that means. It's like learning an entirely new language.
