Sick, and famous
Feb. 18th, 2006 09:05 pmPhysical state of Hmpf: Ill (very). Headache, sore throat, earache, fever, painful cough. Why does this always happen when I have a university deadline to meet?

However, on a less physical level I'm quite happy at the moment. "Normal" has been recced at the
crack_van. That's the second time a story of mine has been featured there (last time was "Endure", in June 2005), and I feel all famous now. I also feel confirmed in my suspicion that the stuff I write at my natural, very slow speed is a lot better than the stuff I've written for challenges, or just in a general hurry. Both the recced stories took ages to write - two years and a bit for "Endure", and almost exactly three years for "Normal". (Of course, I worked on other stories during that time, as well. But that's how long it took to finish them, from conception to the last round of revisions.)
I do hope I'll get a bit quicker with practice, though! I suspect I'll never be a 'fast' writer, but it would be nice to be able to finish a story in a couple of months or so.
Anyway. Here's a link to my 15 minutes of fame - or rather, my *second* 15 minutes of fame: http://community.livejournal.com/crack_van/1726224.html
(Strange adaptation: The last time this happened, it felt weird beyond belief. This time, I'm still pleased, but it's not so weird anymore.)

Writing/housecleaning update - all active projects:
Currently actively working on:
"68 Wives" (working title) - HL; Methos and his wives
On the backburner, but lined up for immediate continuation once the wives are out of the way ("Wives" will be a quick story, I think):
"Found In Translation" (working title) - HL; Methos and Adam Pierson; identity issues
Housecleaning, i.e., old stories in revision right now:
"Sometimes We Believe" - back from beta'ing, needs to be revised now according to new insights - HL, Horsemen story
"Epilogue" - still in pre-beta revision - HL, Quickening story, formal experiment
"Names" - also still in pre-beta revision - HL, another piece about identity issues
Translations:
"Morgenstund" - translation of "Rise And Shine", Farscape - just back from first beta reader
"Nach(t)leben" - translation of "A River In Egypt", Farscape - just sent off to beta
WiPs on backburner, priority 2:
"Terrourists" - Farscape
"These Days" (working title) - Harry Potter epic dystopian AU which scares me to death because it has Plot.
"Personal Space" - Farscape
Backburner, priority 3:
"Sisters" - Farscape, dialogue fic
"The Breakfast of Losers" - Farscape, sequel to "Rise And Shine"
"The Desk" - Deep Space Nine, possibly a HL crossover
"Flaking Paint" - HL, everything-and-the-kitchen-sink fic
Bunnies:
"Atlas" - BSG 2003 ficlet
Unnamed Doctor Who & HL crossover based on a couple of cool lines of dialogue that came to me one day
Unnamed Hellblazer fic about Chas and his relationship with John Constantine (no, not slash)
"Between Countries" - HL, just a couple of sentences so far. No idea where it might go.
Too. Many. Projects. Oh well, I'm doing my best to prioritise.

Get well soon!
Date: 2006-02-18 09:09 pm (UTC)And well done for being famous. Now I know someone famous! Not just someone who had his hair cut by someone famous's dad!
You're famous yourself!

In fact, it was among the first 25 or so Farscape stories recced there.
Not to mention that of course you'll be a famous published writer one of these days, and then I can go around bragging that I know two famous writers! ;-)

Date: 2006-02-18 10:24 pm (UTC)I knew she'd recced it on her website but not there. Huh, coolness. Too bad I don't really write fan fiction anymore. This makes me want to captialise on my briefly held pseudo-fame under another pseudonym. Hmm, perhaps there's a reason it's got "crack" in the title.
Thanks for the vote of confidence, but that does depend on my actually finishing a book... ;)
Becka.
