In other news: things that make me angry:
Oct. 5th, 2011 11:29 pmGoogling for something else today I stumbled across this article. It argues that knowing about climate change may be a bit stressful for children. It contains this gem:
"It’s seen as a good thing to make children green as early as possible, because it is their generation that will make the difference. But I wonder if that hasn’t become a burden on them," says Dr Rudkin.
You wonder if knowing that they're basically toast isn't becoming a burden on today's generation of kids? You don't say.
And, "because it is their generation that will make the difference"... *splutters*
Yeah. Let's just wait for the kids to fix it all. They will make the difference, not us. Never us. And never mind that it will be too fucking late then. Let them deal with that, I'm sure they'll figure something out. After all, it's all their responsibility. Not ours. Right? We couldn't possibly change a thing, and nothing could ever possibly be our responsibility. We couldn't be expected to change our lifestyle in any significant way, let alone our politics. We have no agency, no power, at all! IT'S NOT OUR FAULT!
If I were a parent, I'd go to bed every night with rage in my heart.
If I were a kid, even more so.
(Well, okay, I go to bed with rage in my heart anyway. Rage, and immense sadness.)
