I love you; can't reply in detail today because I still feel pretty crappy (as in: ill) and need to be off to bed now. Just had to make a quick post about my writing progress here today because, well - it's been so long since I made any significant progress in that area. And this is, after all, at least in theory still mostly a fandom journal (although you wouldn't think so, from the look of things lately. *sigh*)

Also, hey, I love you too, whether you comment here or not - and I'd be ill-advised to throw stones, anyway, even if that were my inclination (which it isn't) - because, hey, major glasshouse here! I mean, I'm not even *reading* anyone's LJs at the moment, let alone commenting! Anyone who still reads *me* despite that unforgivable fact is obviously a Wonderful Human Being, and worthy of my deepest gratitude and love. :-)

Hey, since you're here: I've been meaning to re-start uploading my fic to AO3, and among the next stories in line is my Undercover-based ficlet. I've been wondering whether it would be okay with you if I tagged that "undercover universe" or whatever the overarching tag for the series is on AO3, so as to make it possible/easier for readers of the Undercover series to find it? Because it's a story that probably doesn't really make much sense for readers who have *not* read Undercover... I'd also put a BIG HUGE DISCLAIMER in front of it to make clear that it's not part of Undercover *canon*, of course.

I'm totally cool with transformative works, so however you want to label it works for me. There is a ticky-box in the upload process to mark a story as a remix or inspired by another story, which will then let you paste in the URL of the original story to associate them. If you do that, I honestly don't see the need for heavy-handed disclaimers. <3

Yeah, I've been sporadic with other people too - the divorce was finalized on Aparil 7 and last Thursday I got laid off, so I'm stressing and that usually means hibernating. That's I'm here at all is something of a personal triump! \o/

(Honestly, you guys - i.e., quite a few of the people on my flist - probably wouldn't believe how often you are in my thoughts, considering how badly I show my affection around here...)

There IS good news, in that it looks like will be starting the library science program in the fall. Mostly I need to find a way to pay for it! :P Wish me luck!

Ah, I see now that there is no series tag, anyway. So I think I'll just plonk a big link to the Undercover series in the story notes of my fic and hope that people will follow that link, read the series, and then come back for my tiny little 'addition'.

(I hope linking to another story or series in the story notes is allowed. I really do think The Last Lost Generations needs a link to Undercover.)

I've linked to other stories in my story notes, so I know it is allowed. But be sure to use the "inspired by" tick box like I said, that way it is linked within the archive database itself.

I would not stress too much over it all; AO3 is designed to be as user friendly as possible, not for draconian restrictions on what you can and can't do when posting. As long as the database isn't "hurt", I don't think they care!

It's online now. :-) I did use the 'inspired by' box, but with that, you can only link to a single story, not to a series (I tried!) So I set the 'inspired by' link to "Appearances" and then put an additional link in the story notes, which leads to the whole series' page. So, while it's not possible for people who have read the Undercover series to find my fic, at least it's possible for people who want to read my fic to follow the embedded links to yours first. (Or at least I *hope* they'll read yours first. Mine really doesn't make much sense if you read it as a standalone.)
