Bad timing for my first foray into flist reading in two years...

Hey, btw. This dreamwidth thing. Has that really taken off? I may have to check out all the individal LJs of my LJ friends after all, to find out if the reason why they're not posting anymore (if they aren't posting, that is) is because they're just busy or because they've moved to Dreamwidth...

Eh, like one person I know mostly migrated to dreamwidth and she cross-posts everything (there's an automated thing you can set up to ship your dreamwidth posts to LJ, I think). I think that dreamwidth took off more in some areas of fandom than others though so I may be getting a skewed reading... I have a dreamwidth cus someone gave me an invite, but I've never used it.

Oh, you need an invite?

Well, there goes my idea of using it for backup purposes.

Seems everyone on my flist who posts there is crossposting here, and there's only a few. The only thing I use my DW account for is backing up my LJ with the import function.

I'm not using it. And sorry for helping to swamp your flist with Doctor Who.

Dammit, that sounds useful.

*wants*

Heh, don't worry.

The swamping is mostly my own fault, for having subscribed to so many Who communities. I need to unsubscribe, I think.

I have some DW invites and you're welcome to one. No one seems to want them anymore LOL

Well, it sounds useful for the import feature.

So, yes, I think I'd like one. Thanks! (I've seen my own website and an archive I'm an admin at hacked last year, so I'm really fond of making backups now. )

I just need an email address to send it to.

And... it's sent!

You're welcome :)

I have a Dreamwidth account I've never used, nor I inted to use unless LJ goes down (which I hope won't happen, anyway). Had I known you wanted an invite, I'd have sent you one, because I have a few and nobody seems to want them anymore. *shrugs*

Anyway, the only friend on my flist who's posting on DW always crossposts to LJ, so there's nothing lost as far as information goes.

I think many people are just not posting much these days because they're busy for the Xmas holidays, but will come back soon. At least, this is what's happening to me at the moment: I rushed to solve loads of work-related issues until Xmas and now I'm trying to relax a bit before going back to work on Jan 7th. Honestly, I'm often too tired to write or update my LJ, also because nothing relevant is happening in my life.

My flist is flooded with Doctor Who comments as well, but I'm loving it because whoever squees about John Simm being awesome is worthy of my attention, LOL! Have you watched the episodes? If you thought the Master was insane in The Sound of Drums, you haven't seen anything yet! ;)

No, I haven't watched (new) Doctor Who since, oh, the third or so Tennant episode, years ago. I keep wavering over whether to go back and give it another try. The reviews I keep reading do *not* help - the consensus seems to be "part of it is just terrible and part of it is awesome". I'm not sure how much terrible I'm willing to take with my awesome. *sigh*

Ha, I was about to offer to send you one of mine (I'm sure I have some and I've never used them), but it looks like someone beat me to it!
From: [identity profile] beccatoria.livejournal.com
I'm not watching it mainly cus I couldn't take that much terrible with an ever-decreasing amount of awesome. But then if you ask me about Donna (season 4 companion) I'm liable to get all red in the face on a par with my extreme hatred of most of the last half-season of BSG, AND WE ALL KNOW WHAT THAT KIND OF THING LEADS TO. ;)

So um, my opinion is don't bother with it; watch OldWho and then if you're interested in NewWho, wait until next season when Moffat is in charge of it all since he actually writes good episodes. Though I'm not sure I'll've recovered enough to give it another try. *pines for Sylvester McCoy*

I'm not using Dreamwidth (as you may have been able to tell ;) ) but I keep thinking I ought to babysit my name there or something.

But yeah, most people I know who have an account there crosspost. But I couldn't say for anyone who's on both our flists 'cause I just dunno.

I gotta say, Doctor Who was AWESOME.

I've never heard of Dreamwidth. Does it do anything that LJ doesn't? I can't say I'm really in the market for an LJ alternative, as I no longer visit communities and have shrunk my friend list to about six or seven people I actually think of as friends.
Remember Vox? Did people end up using that? I signed up, but had neither time nor enthusiasm.
