Low energy posting
Sep. 25th, 2004 02:51 amThere are times when I just don't have a lot of energy; the last few days have been such a time, which screwed up my plans for posting here and for several other things as well.
So, instead of the super-mega-exhaustive update I meant to do here I'll do a quick, abridged mini-update.
Despite my 'low energy problem' this week it's actually been a nice and eventful few weeks, and I really should have updated my LJ more often 'cause it's always difficult to capture the mood weeks after the fact.
Event number one I meant to write about at some length was my meeting with
dunkle_feuer several weeks ago in Cologne. Cologne is a special city to me; it seems to be a place I go exclusively to geek out. The German Tolkien Society has regular meetings there, and their first few cons took place there, as well; our crazy Fifth-of-Farscape-Rally was held there; and now I've met my old and very dear BABE clansib there... We spent the entire day together, dividing our time between sitting in cafés (and a visit to the same Pizza Hut restaurant our little group of soaking wet Scapers had lunch in after the rally, almost two years ago), and hanging out in a number of book shops. It was a great, geeky day. Speaking of geekiness: I *am* such a geek. I forgot to hug
dunkle_feuer when we were saying goodbye... Here's a belated (((hug))), BABE! Love ya muchly. ;-)
Well, and most of the other events I wanted to write about sort of blend and run into one, and I can't even tell what happened when... let's just say my social life is back on track (barring episodes of slacking off like this week) and there's something happening at least once or twice a week. Meetings of the Farscape group or the Scape Sisters, role playing evenings, casual hanging out with Nager (we seem to be hanging out together a lot recently when he isn't working), watching various sf shows with Susi... oh, yeah, and AnduraNova and I went to eastern Germany to meet Sky for three days, maybe two weeks ago. That was nice... although they did make me watch Farscape in German *shudder*. *g*
And there's lots of cycling. Long tours, too - 58 km in a day, recently, which is probably the longest bicycle tour I've ever done...
So, all things told, there's a lot of nice stuff going on all the time, and maybe I just sort of needed to slack off this week because sometimes it's a bit too much interaction for me. I love being with all those people but it also takes something out of me, and sometimes I need time to recover, antisocial geek that I am at heart. I hope they understand... 'cause when I get that way, I'm not in the mood for calling anyone or e-mailing much, either...
I guess it's just a matter of not being used to having lots of people in your life. For more than 20 years I went without much social interaction...
One thing's for sure: the year in Brum has shown me that, even though I may not be cut out for a life as heart and soul of the party, I cannot take loneliness very well anymore, either. A few years of 'social life' have spoiled me; I may get stressed out by being with people occasionally - but ultimately, friendships give me more than they take out of me.
(On the other hand... I could write better when I was lonely. Seems I can't find the energy for a social life *and* creativity...)
And now I'm getting all mushy which probably means that tomorrow I'll be calling everyone and apologize for having been out of touch. *g*
