hmpf: Show of my heart (angsty)

Right.

Now I know *one* of the things the recent system crashes did to my computer: my Life On Mars vid is gone. Or rather, the Premiere project file for it is gone, or got scrambled. All my work, gone.

Frell.

ETA: Or not. Weeeeeeeird.

You found it? Cool, I love an unexpected happy surprise on the computer...

Yes,

[identity profile] hmpf.livejournal.com 2006-06-23 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course, not getting any *bad* surprises in the first place would be even better... ;-)

It's still there? Cool. Congratulations. :) We're in a similar situation. [livejournal.com profile] mordio is currently editing the GateCamp 2006 and part of our holiday video. After that, the computer has to be re-installed because apart from vidding nothing works any more. After that, I'll be starting on my vidding project. :)

Yikes!

Look at [livejournal.com profile] beccatoria's comment further down: having to reinstall the system seems to be a frighteningly frequent consequence of vidding! *warily eyes Premiere*

Maybe it's playing tricks on you, thinking it's gone, but it's really there. Thank goodness it didn't disappear.

Computers do this - they only know whats on a drive based on a table stored at the start (depending on the filesystem) and the first time they restart after a big crash that table isn't always quite right so things appear to not be there when they actually are (if that makes any sense to you).

Thanks for the explanation!

[identity profile] hmpf.livejournal.com 2006-06-23 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that might have been the problem.

Even at the risk of getting hit: the magick word is backup.
But good that your stuff's not gone :)

Well, I have it 'backed up' -

[identity profile] hmpf.livejournal.com 2006-06-23 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
the problem is that apparently the project file is dependent on a whole lot of other files being in the 'right' place. So either I backup half my system every time I've added to the vid, or my precious project file backup won't be much use.

Good :)

Sorry, I assumed you could narrow that down to a few files/directories.

Don't worry - my first vidding project - I had to literally reinstall my entire operating system to get it to render. But hooray for it not being lost.

In other news, I am insane and am yet again cutting a vid in WMM. Although, I don't actually think I do too badly considering my poor quality source footage and crappy programme. One day when we're in physically similar locations, you can show me a thing or two about Premiere.

In the meantime I'm apparently to lazy to even use fades. Although that's mostly because I don't think this video needs them. It's *gangsta*. No, seriously. It is. *whacks head against monitor*
