Doctor Who, current season

In a nutshell:

#1: Well, that was a bit crap, wasn't it? (Oh, and the guy with the petrification disease reminded me of the guy with the cement disease from Froid Equateur... not that anyone on my flist is likely to get *that* reference... *g*)

#2: Okay-ish; interesting foreshadowing(?) for the Doctor and Rose and their lifestyle there by way of Queen Victoria.

#3: Now *here*'s the good stuff! Pretty much all-around rockage. Evil Giles creeped me out big time, Sarah Jane was wonderful and heartbreaking, there was subtle Doctor!Angst (thought I found it a bit strange that Sarah Jane seemed to have absolutely no reaction to the revelation that the Doctor's the last of the Time Lords now), more 'god' hints, and Rose realising what the Doctor's long lifespan really means for her (and him) was great. Also, interesting that they took Mickey along this time.

Christopher Eccleston still worked better for me as the Doctor, though. I'm beginning to warm to Tennant, but slowly.

Nice to hear your thoughts. I agree about the first episode. When *I'M* bothered by the science, you know it's bad. On the other hand, it was somewhat redeemed by the ending with Cassandra dying in her own arms. I mean...yeah, the way they got there was dodgy, but that moment really resonated for me. So twisted and comforting at the same time.

I quite liked the second one - mostly for Queen Victoria and the vast amounts of relief I felt when she articulated my disdain for this Doctor who is dangerously arrogant. I was so relieved I was *supposed* to be seeing it.

And yeah, the last one was ace. Although I am sorta...worried? They're going *so* heavily with the Doctor & Rose connection, and basically, the emotional love affair they have that you can't possibly call it subtext. Now, I'm not particularly *for* a Doctor/Companion romance. But the way they're playing this...I'm not sure how the show is going to survive the inevitable time when Rose gets left behind. This episode certainly didn't make that more acceptable or okay. On the contrary, I think the audience was supposed to root for Rose to be the one who *didn't* get forgotten, even as they knew it couldn't be.

So...where do you go with this? It's the X-Files dilemma. They're playing it up *so* *much* it'll be unsatisfying if nothing comes of it. But this is a *kids show* and I just can't imagine them going there. Oy. Have they painted themselves into a corner?

This isn't, like, doomsaying. I'm enjoying the series a lot. It's just...where can this possibly go?

In other matters - finish watching BSG so you can watch my new music video and tell me what you think! *SELF-CENTRED!* ;)

Agree about Cassandra;

that was a very poignant scene.

And I liked the apple grass, and the cat nuns reminded me of Norstrilia. Although they would have been Underpeople there.

I'm getting back to my BSG watching now - I'm all caught up with Doctor Who and I've finished watching Life On Mars (that went far too fast, of course - only eight eps! *cries*), so now I can watch other television again. Looking forward to your vid!

The third one made me sob. It really did. I loved the second loads, but only because I like werewolves and Scottish accents. David Tennant's growing on me too. But I still don't like him as much as Christopher Eccelston :D

Didn't watch the episode, but OMG I have been scarred for life by seeing scary pics of Tony Head in the local telly paper.

:)
