Even if you just accept both Classic Who and NuWho as the same canon, the Doctor's stated age isn't consistent. The Seventh Doctor put it at 953, but the Ninth Doctor only put it at 900. From what I hear if you get into the Eighth Doctor books and audios he has stated his age at over 1,000. I prefer to think of him as over 1,000 myself.
