Why *is* it that Life on Mars fandom produces about ten times the crack as, say, Farscape and Highlander fandom combined? (And so much less angst than you'd think, considering the hyper-angsty premise?)
Well as someone who writes both serious fic and fun stuff, I tend to find the PWP and the crack!fic a fun way to 'blow off steam' from some of the weightier fic I do. And anyway, the characters are so brilliantly drawn and vivid it is easy to imagine the in all sorts of strange ways...why should Dr. Who have all the fun? :)
I dunno, I guess that is the reason for me: it's just fun.
(Me, I don't get the crossover thing. I did one (Thursday Next/LoM) due to a challenge but I don't see ever doing it again. Just seems stupid to me, but some people love the x-over thing (ghod save me from Simm!Master/Sam etc.).)
Hmmm... well the show had a fair amount of crack, too. Camberwick!Sam? Test Card Girl? Talking televisions? And if the series 2 Companion is to be believed, the writers were considering taking it in even crackier directions (Gene dressed as Doctor Who chasing Sam dressed as a Cyberman! Gene leaping out of Sam's imagination and running riot in 2007!)

Hm. But in my experience...

Not at all.

Doesn't explain why there's more crack here than elsewhere, though, does it?

I feel like everything is clearer now...
Not intended to sound confrontational, btw.

Also, this is a show that had a puppet sequence, in what was, to MG's mind, 'not SF'.
Plus, I think there is a lot of angst, it's just of certain concentrations. And I am really glad the fandom has a sense of humour.

Yeah, but so did Farscape.
